d2mini Posted February 22, 2016 Share #1 Posted February 22, 2016 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, just curious if anyone has an educated guess as to what it might cost to fix my 35 cron asph. The camera took a light spill but it was enough to ding/bend the edge of the threaded filter ring on the front of the lens so i can no longer screw on a filter. Other than this, the lens seems fine. Thoughts? Also, what would be the best way to go about getting this repaired here in the states? Where/who to call? This would be my first Leica repair experience. Thank you! spydrxx Posted February 22, 2016 Share #3 Posted February 22, 2016 Although I've often used the tool JAAP shows, the bigger issue is whether the spill might have also have slightly damaged the lens alignment. I had this happen with a 50 Chron several years ago, and began to notice slightly stiff focusing, which eventually got worse and froze up. Sent it to DAG and all was buttery smooth...if I recall correctly the whole job was around $200.
TomB_tx Posted February 22, 2016 Share #4 Posted February 22, 2016 Agreed - send it to DAG Camera for repair. Don was trained and worked at the Leica factory, and does excellent work. I trust him with all my difficult jobs. I've also used the lens repair vise on several old lenses, when the price was a bargain because of the damage. Sometimes it works fine, but it can also expand or distort the ring more - it takes practice.
d2mini Posted February 24, 2016 Author Share #5 Posted February 24, 2016 Thank you. Shipped off to DAG today. The insured shipping is probably going to cost me more than the repair. lol
