Mantice Posted February 19, 2016 Share #1 Posted February 19, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Its been awhile since LensRental and Sony A7x stir up cover glass thickness differences, which has technical effect especially on large aperture and wide-angle lenses. Its nice that Leica "update" its three 28/35mm lens, which seems to have dramatic effect on SL according to a user report on Getgdi forum (less so on M240 according to him), but that's expensive for a simple design change. Will new M include sensor glass as thin as possible so all Leica lens made in the past can still have potential, or, thicken up the sensor and make previous lenses obsolete in terms of maximum image quality? It may be too late if Leica is going to release a new body this year, but I do wish it will headed to the opposite direction of SL.
Advertisement Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 Hi Mantice, Take a look here What direction will digital M go for sensor stack thickness?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted February 19, 2016 Share #2 Posted February 19, 2016 As thin as possible; Leica M is about retrocompatability.
cbretteville Posted February 21, 2016 Share #3 Posted February 21, 2016 Agere with Jaap. Looking at the results I got on an X-Pro1 with its cropped sensor where anything shorter than 50mm gave horrible smearing of the peripheral parts of the image going thick would be a disaster. Trend is thinner, look at Pentax's new FF body. Cheers, Carl
