Black TL Lens or Silver?

A question to those eyeing the upcoming 35mm TL and 60mm TL primes - what color lens are you thinking of? I was an early buyer when the T was only in silver, and judging by the fact that the silver is slightly discounted by the black isn't, the black has been more popular, although from a design POV, silver is IMO more faithful to the whole ethos of simplicity of design and a single block of aluminium.

So - for those with a black T looking at either TL lens, are you looking at the black version?

And those with silver Ts, black or silver?

My only lens right now is a 50mm Summilux-M, so I'm already comfortable with a black lens on silver, but the silver lens on silver body does look very tasty...

I have a black T - bought the first one available at my local dealer - and i preordered a black Summilux-TL 35. I enjoy the T very much, because it is very stealthy. it won't make you stand out from the crowd with stretched arms holding compact cameras when used with LCD only.

I intentionally bought a silver one, although I like the black T too.

However, I will go for a silver lens - because as you wrote: "...but the silver lens on silver body does look very tasty..."

Cheers

If I had it to do over again, woulda gotten the black T.  The silver is nice looking but stands out a bit.  I have toyed with the idea of  getting a second one in black....... But think waiting for the next version.

My silver T has been the one camera where folks stop and ask me "what camera is that?" Never with any of my previous cameras (DSLRs, m4/3, RX1, etc) - at the Hong Kong Occupy Central movement back in 2014 when I was visiting, I wandered around the protest site and no-one spoke to me except another photographer (it was a magnet for shooters looking for a once-in-a-lifetime shot of protesting in Hong Kong) who blurted out "wow! that's beautiful. What is it?" I'm not 100% sure but I do think if I had a black T, I would have slipped by unnoticed

I got the silver T because quite frankly I wanted it to look different from all my other cameras which are black...

Therefore planning to get the silver Summilux as well...

  • 3 months later...

I first had a sliver T and thought thats about the T made of one aluminium block.

However when the black once appeared I found those look more like a "camera" and might draw less attention, I added a demo black body and now prefer that one slightly over the silver.

Thats why I ordered a black TL lens and not a silver one.

Overall its much personal taste, in most cases I prefer black cameras (I think black Nikon df and black EM1 look better than their silver counterparts) but on the other side I also like my silver M body and even added a silver 35 SUmmicron.

I got the silver. It looks surprisingly great on the silver body. More than how it looks, I am very pleased with its performance. It definitely brings out the best of the T. World class lens for sure.
