TMorita Posted February 13, 2016 Share #1  Posted February 13, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I couldn't find a reference to this, so I think it's new.  I bought a Raynox DCR-250 a while back. It's a macro conversion lens which is designed to work with an existing lens.  http://www.raynox.co.jp/english/dcr/dcr250/indexdcr250eg.htm  The front filter thread is 49mm, and the back camera thread is 43mm, so it fits the X Vario perfectly without using the included adapter.  The stock X Vario minimum focus distance is about 12 inches. The MFD with the DCR-250 is about 4 inches.  Toshi  Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! TMorita Posted February 13, 2016 Author Share #5  Posted February 13, 2016 Most of these full-flower shots are tiny flowers about half an inch across or less.  Welcome, dear visitor! TMorita Posted February 13, 2016 Author Share #7  Posted February 13, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I tried daffodils but they're a single color, so not as interesting. The flowers where the pistils/stamens are different colors than the petals seem to work better. Welcome, dear visitor! TMorita Posted February 13, 2016 Author Share #8  Posted February 13, 2016 It's possible to zoom in ludicruously close with cropping. This is about a 1:1 crop. Welcome, dear visitor! TMorita Posted February 13, 2016 Author Share #9 Â Posted February 13, 2016 I really had a lot of fun today with the DCR-250. If you're interested in buying one, here's the link on Amazon. gbealnz Posted February 13, 2016 Share #10 Â Posted February 13, 2016 Great shots Toshi. I'm sure our resident expert Dunk will chime in, as he is the close-up king. I've gone a slightly different route, and I might add somewhat more difficult. I got a couple of Elpro close-up lenses, and "made" them fit the required 43mm thread. Same/similar result, just more work. Your Raynox is much easier. Gary
Guytou Posted February 13, 2016 Share #11  Posted February 13, 2016 Hello Toshi,  Cheer for these beautiful images !I have also two closed-up Raynox (150 and 250)which marries marvelously well with X Vario.Guy
Sparkassenkunde Posted February 13, 2016 Share #12 Â Posted February 13, 2016 Very good images, Toshi. The only thing I don't like is your distracting watermark. Â I have used the same combo with my Vario and got some nice results, here you may find one example:Â Â Â Â Â Â Â #708 Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
Keith (M) Posted February 13, 2016 Share #13  Posted February 13, 2016 Excellent shots - hand-held or with tripod?  There are quite a few images using the Raynox and Elpro devices in the 'X-Vario images' sticky thread at the top of the forum.  I bought the '150' version of the Raynox and find it works very well for reasonable close-up's when wandering about in the countryside.   Welcome, dear visitor! wda Posted February 13, 2016 Share #14 Â Posted February 13, 2016 A very useful accessory or two. Much has been written in the forum about close up photography with the X Vario. Well worth a search.
TMorita Posted February 20, 2016 Author Share #15 Â Posted February 20, 2016 Excellent shots - hand-held or with tripod? Â Â They were with a tripod, although the wind was making the flowers bounce around a bit. Â Toshi
dkCambridgeshire Posted March 26, 2016 Share #16 Â Posted March 26, 2016 I tried daffodils but they're a single color, so not as interesting. The flowers where the pistils/stamens are different colors than the petals seem to work better. Â Â Try backlighting the daffodils to explore their translucence.
