I've decided to order a new Leica Q while I wait for Leica to get there shit together and get us all a new M. I also ordered a Arte Di Mano burgundy half case to match the one I will put on the new M if its body is the same size..................I got a lot of flack over the red case, but I don't care I liked it and still do.

So what can you guys tell me in advance about what to expect with the Leica Q when it arrives??

I am a pro, usually work with nikon D800. Purchased the Q for being always equiped without carying the nikon's weight on everydays life. I am fully satisfied and sometimes I use it for pro purposes too.

Before I bought the Leica T but didn't get along with it even if it is a good do-it-all cam, just because I am too much used to full frame. The Q is very performant, cannot say perfect because you can always find in any cam something you would rather have or improve. In the Q I syill don't know what I would change...

Tips:

If you ordered the Leica LCD screen protector, take care and go slowly when installing it. I did, but despite that I still ended up with two little air bubbles I can't get out. 

 

Yes, it can take a bit of force to get the lens hood seated perfectly oriented into its clicked position.

 

Also go slowly when  installing the free LR and pay attention to advice here. I installed the standalone and it has been fine but others seem to struggle with issues, as you can read. 

 

What do I expect you will think?: that you'll be very impressed, as almost everyone has been.

 

Sure, it does work great (IQ, low light capability, etc.), it is a joy to use, but most importantly: it has re-kindled and increased my love of photography. Now you will carry your camera a lot more and use it a lot more.

It has a fixed lens, an EVF which isn't as big, bright and clear as the viewfinder on your S, 28 is wider than you want for a standard lens, and not as wide as the 21 you love, the cropped modes are nice, but resolution (pixel count) drops dramatically as you zoom in (you want full frame), it's big for a fixed focal length (your phone has a 28mm lens and is smaller and has more MP) and the buttons are small. 

 

Looking into my crystal ball, you'll defiantly sell it in a few weeks, and be cursing Leica again because you here there's a new Sony which will be far better for you.

Ouch! But at least he'll still be defiant.   :blink:

 

My prediction: It'll be wide enough if he loves 21mm, he'll rarely (if ever) use the cropped modes in camera, the EVF will be forgotten once the shots are taken (he might look up and out and spend less time looking down the sights), he won't miss changing lenses except when he has the time for function over form, and after lugging around an S kit this will be the camera that never leaves his hand.  :)

 

Oh and that new Sony?...the menu/settings are still a Gordian knot and the colours are still crap.

Not so worried about a case, but the grip and thumbs up together with an AA slider strap make it handle brilliantly.

Just use it.........

 

Play with the settings and set it up for your style.

 

Have a play with setting JPGs to B&W. The Q does very nice B&W out of the camera.

 

Had mine for 6 months now and love it. Awesome camera.

 

And did I say just use it......

Well, given that Neil has been postprocessing and printing S files to his taste for some time and has done so before for his M cameras, I think he won't need the provided LR.
