Advertisement Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 Hi Leicaiste, Take a look here SL : best-performing Leica sensor to date. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
FlashGordonPhotography Posted January 23, 2016 Share #2 Posted January 23, 2016 I have an A7II and I don't see what DXO sees in real life. The Sony I have has noticeably better DR than my SL. That's not saying I don't like the SL sensor but I shoot a lot of high DR scenes and I see the difference. Gordon
scott kirkpatrick Posted January 23, 2016 Share #3 Posted January 23, 2016 This shows some interesting measurements. The chart of dynamic range shows the SL keeping 13 to 12 stops of dynamic range up to ISO 800, then giving up a stop of range for every stop of ISO increase above 800. So there is magic in the use of auto-ISO up to that point, but above 800 it is the old zone system tradeoff, expose for the shadow detail that you need and restore the highlights in post-processing (for lowest noise) or more conveniently by setting some incredible ISO value. And if you like to reduce things to one single number, the SL does very well. scott
