Advertisement Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 Hi Leicaiste, Take a look here SL : best-performing Leica sensor to date. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
FlashGordonPhotography Posted January 23, 2016 Share #2 Â Posted January 23, 2016 I have an A7II and I don't see what DXO sees in real life. The Sony I have has noticeably better DR than my SL. That's not saying I don't like the SL sensor but I shoot a lot of high DR scenes and I see the difference. Â Gordon
scott kirkpatrick Posted January 23, 2016 Share #3 Â Posted January 23, 2016 This shows some interesting measurements. Â The chart of dynamic range shows the SL keeping 13 to 12 stops of dynamic range up to ISO 800, then giving up a stop of range for every stop of ISO increase above 800. Â So there is magic in the use of auto-ISO up to that point, but above 800 it is the old zone system tradeoff, expose for the shadow detail that you need and restore the highlights in post-processing (for lowest noise) or more conveniently by setting some incredible ISO value. Â And if you like to reduce things to one single number, the SL does very well. Â scott
