rjsphd Posted January 22, 2016 Share #1 Posted January 22, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am a newbie to the M 240 (own a M6) and have found a used one with a labeling I have not seen: it has the word "Leica" in white script on the front rather than the red dot. Would members be kind enough to fill me in: how does it differ from the red dots? Is it in any way inferior? Thanks in advance.
Advertisement Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 Hi rjsphd, Take a look here M240 with white writing. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted January 22, 2016 Share #2 Posted January 22, 2016 The red dot is easily pulled off and owners have been playing around with it in all kinds of ways, from sticking Duct Tape on it to fitting pink and luminescent green dots. Is does not make one whit of difference to the camera under the dot.
Peter Kilmister Posted January 22, 2016 Share #3 Posted January 22, 2016 If it has a valid serial number then it is a genuine product. I am sure most dealers would be able to verify the serial number. Leica Mayfair verified one I was buying before I parted with the money.
Schrödinger's cat Posted January 22, 2016 Share #4 Posted January 22, 2016 Post a picture. My understanding is you are describing the script as being directly above the lens at the 12 o'clock position and on the front vertical surface, not offset to the side or on the top horizontal surface. The common red dot, or black dot which sometimes replaces it, is used to cover up access for an adjustment screw. Some of the M240 models omit the dot and instead allow a slot head screw to be visible. But the access has to be present one way or the other. It is located at the 12 o'clock position directly above the lens. I'm guessing that the script you are seeing is simply something else that has been used to cover the screw. If the front of the top cover is actually solid and the script engraved directly on it at the 12 o'clock position without the adjustment screw access, that would be unique. Welcome, dear visitor!
