NZDavid Posted January 22, 2016 Share #1  Posted January 22, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) An all-weather,shock-proof freeze-proof, waterproof, crush-proof camera certainly holds some appeal. Especially if you like going taking photos in the outdoors. So how will the XU compare?  More will be known once snappers can actually get their hands on it, but as the market stands right now (January 2016), who are the computers for the Leica X-U? Nikon AW-1 springs to mind. It has underwater capability  -- "waterproof to 49 feet [15m] without a bulky protective housing" -- and it even has interchangeable lenses. And it's a lot cheaper. Sensor size is smaller, though. IQ? With Leica X products that seems to be the overriding point of difference. Any other ruggedized all-weather cameras come close?

tom0511 Posted January 25, 2016 Share #2 Â Posted January 25, 2016 I have used Oly EM5 and EM1 in heavy rain. Since I also own a X2 (which I like a lot and prefer over the X 113 because of size) I would say the IQ of the Oly is good. The Oly is much lower price, faster AF, more flexible lens for outdoor use, EVF, Sensor stabi,.... If you want to go diving you can put it in a real UW case. Any other ruggedized all-weather cameras come close? David,  Most competitors have small sensors. The Nikon had a lot of DUW (death under water) reports after it came out. It's always compromises. And frankly, no underwater afficionado complains about bulk and weight of their camera in a housing. Only above water  But the XU at 3300 EUR here? The flash must be on underwater to trigger other flashes, so backscatter will make it useless. A video light would do better, as Jaap already wrote.  DOA I think! Only above water Yes, mine weighs about 10Kg above water but is roughly neutral underwater. The basic problem with the X-U is price as far as I can see. Good idea but just way too pricey. I like the spec but .....
