Leicaiste Posted January 19, 2016 Share #1 Posted January 19, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) After one month of use, I have already more than ten scratches on edges or flat parts of the SL. And I am normally cautious. I don't see traces like these on my M or on my good old R9, and very few on my R and M lenses. The black anodized milled aluminum is maybe good to protect the inner parts of the SL, but is really to soft. The SL finish looks nice new, but I am afraid it will really looks tatty after more use. I hope that the next iteration of the SL will be better designed and finished like the R9 was.
Advertisement Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Hi Leicaiste, Take a look here Poor quality of the external finish of the SL.. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
tthorne Posted January 19, 2016 Share #2 Posted January 19, 2016 I may be the unpopular guy on this one, but I bet it looks good and will continue to look better and better as time goes. I wish I could wear the finish down on my M's. Worn finishes look much better than pristine ones in my opinion. That said, I understand that not everyone shares this opinion, so my post was not meant as a criticism.
FlashGordonPhotography Posted January 19, 2016 Share #3 Posted January 19, 2016 My SL, purchased on the first day, still looks new. So far I think it's beautifully built and finished. I am not one to "molly coddle" my gear. It's there to be used. Of course our use and handling will be different. I must agree with you that aluminium won't look as nice as brass after the wear and tear starts to show. A brassed M is a beautiful thing. And I also agree about the R9. Possibly the most beautiful SLR camera of all time, I think Leica were mad not to make the SL look like it. As much as I like the camera I think the SL is an ugly beast. And while you're at it make the next T look like an X-Vario. Gordon

ramarren Posted January 19, 2016 Share #6 Posted January 19, 2016 Im pretty abusive myself, my camera still looks new. Received on launch day (bolded) Yes, same here. I tend to pay attention and take care, but my cameras inevitably pick up some small scratches and scrapes from use. Nothing on the SL so far. It almost looks too clean to me. (My M-P with 8 months usage on it also look almost brand new.) So I have little to wish for in way of fit and finish quality
