LocalHero1953 Posted March 17, 2016 Share #21  Posted March 17, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) It should gives access to the rubber door on the left side. I guess that's the L-plate?

ramarren Posted March 17, 2016 Share #23  Posted March 17, 2016 The BP-CS fits almost perfectly.. But I've been badgering RRS for months and it's paid off. They're making an SL plate and L-bracket!!   I don't think they needed to be badgered.  I shipped RRS dimensions and outlines for the SL (drawn from the instruction manual) even before the SL shipped. I conversed with them about it when my SL arrived on November 16: I tried out all the plates I had (including the BP-CS), showing them photos of the camera fitted with each one. They seemed quite eager to produce a properly sized standard and L plate from the start.  Doing these things simply takes some time to do correctly, that's all. Designing, drawing, writing the CNC code to produce the plate, finishing, testing, etc, all take time.

LD_50 Posted May 11, 2016 Share #26  Posted May 11, 2016 I received today the Really Right Stuff BSL with both the horizontal and vertical plates.  As usual, RRS quality and fit are impeccable. The base plate fits wonderfully and looks like part of the camera. It may actually improve the ergonomics for me with the extra height reducing the pressure on the inside of my palm from the hard edge of the SL. I'll know over time as I make use of it.  Every RRS product I own is fantastic and this looks to be another great product. Their customer service helped me out in a jam a few years ago when I needed a monopod on very short notice for my Nikon kit.
Peter Walker Posted May 11, 2016 Share #27  Posted May 11, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I received today the Really Right Stuff BSL with both the horizontal and vertical plates.    Does the base plate have the bar to connect the bottom loop of a handstrap, similar to the generic RRS plate? MEB Posted May 11, 2016 Share #30  Posted May 11, 2016 Today I received the RRS base plate for my SL. I did not order the "L" attachment which is a separate option. The fit is absolutely perfect...it looks as if it is an original part of the camera. It adds exactly 11mm to the height of the camera and doesn't interfere in any way with any camera function. I recommend it to anyone looking for a quick release base plate.  Mark
meerec Posted May 12, 2016 Share #31  Posted May 12, 2016 For the information of all, I've re-purposed the RRS L-plate I used with my Canon 5D3 — it fits nicely onto my SL body.
AlanJW Posted May 12, 2016 Author Share #32  Posted May 12, 2016 I have the RRS in hand and have taken some pictures. Please excuse quality and apparent dirtiness of my screen. Left eyed and nose smudges are constant problem.  Fit and finish are impeccable as expected from RRS. Battery is fully accessible so no need to remove it once it is on.  But it does add some bulk so I will likely not leave the QR on all the time but when I am intending to use a tripod it surely will be of help.  I was not happy with the generic solutions.  Welcome, dear visitor! LocalHero1953 Posted May 12, 2016 Share #33 Â Posted May 12, 2016 Hmm, a bit bulky for my tastes. I'll stick to the RRS generic plate. It allows the camera to remain stable on a flat surface while giving access to the bits that matter.
ramarren Posted May 12, 2016 Share #34  Posted May 12, 2016 Looks like the one I have for the Olympus E-M1. Nice piece.  In the second photo, is that a lug for a hand strap that I see next to the battery opening?

richherzog Posted May 17, 2016 Share #36  Posted May 17, 2016 Just got the new RRS L plate for the SL. It fits perfect as has all of the new features. The battery slips right out. The side plate slides out to access the camera door for cables.

wlaidlaw Posted May 20, 2016 Share #40  Posted May 20, 2016 Another vote for the RRS BP-CS plate. I used these people in Germany, whose prices are not too much above US price and avoids having to fight with UK customs and all the random charges they add to the import duty https://www.augenblicke-eingefangen.de/catalog/index.php?manufacturers_id=29&osCsid=d74d6b50d3a9b1a7007475e587f2d733. They were very efficient and I had the plate within two days.  At the moment the French seem to have given up charging duty on stuff that comes in via normal post, so I now buy US stuff from my French house and ask them to use USPS rather than a courier. I got some Manfrotto/Arca compatible converter clamps from Chris Hejnar a couple of weeks ago, and was delighted not be charged on receipt.  In the UK we now get charged: Import duty, collection fee, processing charge and finally 20% VAT on the whole lot, not just on the original value plus all the taxes and charges but also on the postage and packing costs from the US, which is government licensed theft. For lower valued items, this can more than double the cost.  Wilson
