New summicron asph 35mm. How and why did they improve the current one?

My black 35/2 asph v1 is from 2010 hence was 6-bit coded. I've got focussing issues with black film lenses only (50/1.4 asph, 90/2.8, 90/2 v3). Calibration for digital fixed the problems definitely. As for film lenses, there were differences between some black and silver or titan lenses i've been told but i don't know if machining was the culprit or if they were calibrated for different apertures as some pre-asph lenses used to be.

Interesting, mine’s 2003. Leica only made a 1,000 or so annually back then (excluding the LHSA editions). Production ramped up considerably over the next couple of years to over 10K so I thought lower volume might mean more consistent machining. Just guessing though.
