Giulio Zanni Posted January 12, 2016 Share #1 Â Posted January 12, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I would like to use the 80-200 R on the M for landscape on a tripod. The problem is that the lens does not have a tripod collar, as many Leica tele. Attaching the body to the tripod would stress and damage it. Grateful for suggestions. Advertisement Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 Hi Giulio Zanni, Take a look here Tripod collar for 80-200 on M. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted January 12, 2016 Share #2 Â Posted January 12, 2016 It won't stress or damage the mounting point, unless you sit on the lens, but I'll grant you it will balance better with a collar. Maybe the Canon A2 collar fits - you would have to measure and try.
Sully Posted January 12, 2016 Share #3  Posted January 12, 2016 Guilio,  I use the R 80-200mm lens with a black Canon A-2 ring.  You have to modify the lens slightly  by removing the red dot on the lens. It works perfectly for me for horizontal or vertical shots.  I don't know if the black version of this ring is still available.  Ciao,  Sully

LocalHero1953 Posted January 12, 2016 Share #5 Â Posted January 12, 2016 I use that lens on the SL with the Leica R-M adapter that includes a tripod mount. It balances well with the SL (I have used it with an unlocked ballhead to shoot fast moving kids), but perhaps the M is too light for an exact balance. jaapv Posted January 12, 2016 Share #6 Â Posted January 12, 2016 I have no problems using the camera mount, but then I use it mainly as a hand-held lens or on a Monopod at most. A good point about using the M-R adapter with the tripod mount brought forward for this reason.
bocaburger Posted January 12, 2016 Share #7  Posted January 12, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Good tip about the Canon collar! I have the 70-210 f/4, which is shorter and much lighter than the 80-200, and although I don't think it would cause damage to use the camera's tripod attachment, the cantilevering does add to vibration, and of course there is no modern IS/VR. I use the Leica-brand adapter, which places the tripod attachment closer to the center of gravity. I relegated my Novoflex adapter to the 400/6.8 Telyt-V because the Leica one vignettes.
Giulio Zanni Posted January 12, 2016 Author Share #8 Â Posted January 12, 2016 I didn't know that the Leica R-M adapter had a tripod mount. Â Sully thanks for the tip of the Canon collar.
MarkP Posted January 12, 2016 Share #9 Â Posted January 12, 2016 The tripod mount for the Leica R-M adapter is attached by two screws and is fitted/removed easily using a hex key supplied with the adapter.

Grateful for suggestions.  Giulio   You should try to find one of the Burzynski Lens Collar made around 2003 for the R-100 Apo, R-180 2,8 Apo and R-80-200.  http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/498044  I have one, it is very sturdy and has an Arca mount. spydrxx Posted January 13, 2016 Share #11 Â Posted January 13, 2016 When I had an R8 with the zoom I searched around for a collar and ended up with a Chinese version of the A2. I also wanted to use the collar with another zoom but the fit wasn't exact for the lens. I ended up trimming a piece of thin flexible cellular foam to fit inside the collar. The degree of snugness is a function of how tight I screw the collar pieces together, and it has served me well for over 12 years now.
vladik Posted January 15, 2016 Share #12 Â Posted January 15, 2016 I am using Novoflex R to M adapter with my Vario-Elmar 80-200 f/4 with a Novoflex Tripod collar. As the tripod collar is quite narrow it does not lend itself to be used as a traditional setup. So I do mount it to L bracket to be used for horizontal and vertical orientation on tripod ballhead (or you can flip ballhead). I replaced blue adjustment screw with a M4 cap head one. It works very well.
