Strange M246 test on Dpreview

I went on dpreview this morning and saw what seemed to me a very flawed comparison test of the M246. The images look soft compared to any of the other cameras and they report that there is blur from the shutter at 1/125s with the 90mm summicron. They do not talk about which summicron was used or why anyone would compare a 90mm to the Leica Qs 28mm lens.

The test makes the M246 look really bad and I encourage everyone to comment and complain about their obviously flawed testing procedures.

Well,  I suppose it's entirely possible that the M246 shutter causes more vibration than the M240.

And that dpreview identified the flaw.

And other reivewers didn't report it, because their testing was less rigorous.

And the individual owners haven't filled the internet with outraged posts because they are not critical users.

But I kinda doubt it :)  I could be wrong though.  According to my wife, I frequently am.  :)

I read the article.  What the heck does it mean to change to 'low light mode' to avoid the blur at 125th second?  Scratching my head on that.

They probably mean to have the shutter in its classic mode - closed before exposure.

Some correction made in the article:

"There is another issue, however. Even without a mirror flipping out of the way in this rangefinder, the shutter causes blur at speeds near 1/125sec when using the 90mm F2 Summicron. To see the true sharpness of the camera at base ISO in our studio scene, we recommend switching over to low-light mode where the shutter's effect isn't present.

Update: the "shutter shock" issue seen here was caused by the camera's metering mode being set to "advanced", which causes the shutter to always be open for metering, and then requires it to close and reopen for the exposure, causing the blur seen. Thanks to the readers who pointed this out."

Please correct me if wrong, but that is not a setting on the 246 or the 240?

Edit.  I see there is a classic live view disabled on the light metering mode.  Is that what I need to set?  Thanks. Never tried that.

I tried to read the article and comments, but... dpreview is so terrible.  Brand fanboys, camera fondlers, cat paparazzi, compulsive HDR addicts.

I don't think that's fair comment. The forums are frequented by a number of very helpful and knowledgeable people. You get everything from newbies looking to upgrade from their phone camera to working pro's. It's a useful resource if you filter out the usual fanboys and trolls (which we have to suffer here also!).

I know of no such issues with the 246. I've been shooting with mine since mid July, about 10k and have not experience any issues. I also hand hold 1/10 of a sec and get sharp images. Perhaps reviewer had trouble with manual focus.

Wow, Leica should issue an official notice warning owners about using 125th and a 90mm Summicron, .................or you could change to a 90mm Elmarit, or use a different shutter speed, or a different metering mode. This isn't camera testing for photographers that DPreview are doing, it is gear testing for gear heads. I don't give a damn, I haven't got a 90mm Summicron, and 125th isn't my favourite shutter speed anyway, neither here nor there as shutter speeds go.
