ShivaYash Posted December 31, 2015 Share #1 Posted December 31, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Greetings to all from Melbourne. 32 mins of this year left and since getting the M6, my M-E has been redundant. Shooting film is so nice and dare I say it, different. It reminds me of my pre digital life and it's one I think for 2016, I am going back too. So the M-E will remain but it will be the M6 that I use. With best wishes to all, SY Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted December 31, 2015 Posted December 31, 2015 Hi ShivaYash, Take a look here Happy new year... 2016 the year I go back to film?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
rpavich Posted December 31, 2015 Share #2 Posted December 31, 2015 I'm with you on this. I put my toe into the "film" water just to see if I'd like it and I realized that I'd been trying to get the "film look" for so long with digital, that I might as well just shoot film. So, I tried it, and loved it.I sold my last digital camera a month ago and never looked back. (though I do have a pocket snapshot camera from 10 years ago that I keep for digital emergencies)I like the whole process; shooting, waiting, developing, scanning, and soon...printing. chrism Posted December 31, 2015 Share #5 Posted December 31, 2015 Happy new year to all as well. I never left film, but I have left digital Ms. Half the pleasure for me is in the use of older cameras, in the chemistry of developing - in using what has become arcane knowledge, I suppose, to allow me to feel maximal input into the creative act. Yes, I have kept a couple of versatile digital cameras (D810 and an OM-D) for documentation-type pictures, but when I want photography rather than documentation, I want to have the self-indulgent pleasure of using film. I guess that makes me a waste of space as far as Leica AG is concerned, but I'm inclined to be selfish in this regard. Good luck, SY, with your M6! C. kentishrev Posted December 31, 2015 Share #6 Posted December 31, 2015 2016 is the year I attempt the "5 photos a day, film, Leica M, one lens" The M3 arrived on Christmas Eve, and I picked up a Summicron 50mm the week before. I'm really hoping this will improve my composition, exposure skills and understanding of film type. My digital remains for family shots - I can't take the risk of meterless photos for these at this stage (Pentax, can't afford an M and I do love my K-30 with the 43mm or 31mm Limiteds). I'm sure I'll be on here seeking help and advice all too regularly!
gbealnz Posted December 31, 2015 Share #7 Posted December 31, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Nice shot SY, been there, lovely part of Melbourne. Yes, film is what I like too, I've not completely abandoned digital, and won't, it has it's place, but like many have said (RP and Chri especially) it's not "just" film, it's the whole from start to finish process. I like shooting it, developing it, printing it, and even dare I say it scanning it, when required. Gary
nobbylon Posted December 31, 2015 Share #8 Posted December 31, 2015 I'm going the other way! Shot quite a lot of film this year with various cams but hoping to pick up an M9-P and do a year of Leica digital.
ShivaYash Posted December 31, 2015 Author Share #9 Posted December 31, 2015 Thanks for all the replies. For me it's just so nice and reminds of the old days when I'd shoot a roll or three a week with my M3, Contax S2b and other cameras like 35SP, XA etc. Film has a look I'd forgotten about and it's nice to find it again. The M-E I'm sure will still be used now and again but with it needing a replacement sensor the M6 will be getting more use. For family snaps I agree digital is great and that is where the X100 also comes into its own. Happy new year. I have three rolls to develop next week. There is a great lab here in Melbourne called Hillvale, they offer dropboxes all over the city and a few days later your photos appear on your DropBox like magic. Great value too. Ramesh Posted December 31, 2015 Share #11 Posted December 31, 2015 Shiva, Nice picture. I dipped my toes into the Leica film world (M6 and a couple of lenses) a few months ago and I too am enjoying the journey. I process and print my B&W films at home and there is something to be said about watching the picture emerge under the eerie glow of the safe light. All the best for 2016 and Happy Snapping... Ramesh Exactly, even though for me it has been about 50 years, there is still nothing as magical as watching a print "develop". Gary

philipus Posted January 1, 2016 Share #14 Posted January 1, 2016 Luv the smell of fixer in the night... it smells like...photography It is very inspiring to read threads like this one. I have also never left film. It is interesting in some way, but it is only with the advent of digital (and the debate of film vs digital, which will probably outlast the Universe itself) that I have realised why I love film. Before digital, I liked the "look" of various films but, of course, film was the only way. Now with digital around I feel very strongly that I will remain with film for as long as it exists both because of the process it requires from start to finish and because of how it looks. I'm certainly no luddite; far from it, I love technology and believe in its power to further humankind (big words, but it's the 1st of January after all). I use an iPhone and an old C-Lux 2 and I've owned and used extensively digital Canons too. But whenever I use digital I always feel that my heart is and will for as long as it beats be in film. I wish Shiva and everyone else who gives film a go very good luck. Here's to film, long may it live. Philip
Doc Henry Posted January 1, 2016 Share #15 Posted January 1, 2016 Film versus digital You have said "tonality" and "details" ? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vuozXCv2nJQ Henry
zoe Posted January 2, 2016 Share #16 Posted January 2, 2016 Happy New Year. Count me in this year as going back to film. I will keep my M9P but I am purchasing a film camera while the 12% discount in the US is valid. About a month ago I purchased a film scanner and got out some of my old negatives... well, that got me to thinking why am I spending so much time on files trying to make them look like film when I can shoot film. And a bonus is that the cameras are beautiful.
AAK Posted January 2, 2016 Share #17 Posted January 2, 2016 Much of the pleasure of film photography for me is the act of taking photographs. Modern digital cameras make it easier -- just set everything to 'auto' -- but that eliminates most of the technical and interesting elements of the process. I hope you enjoy film! LarsAC Posted January 3, 2016 Share #18 Posted January 3, 2016 Majority of photos in 2015 was probably film after restarting film in 2013. trend will continue in 2016. I keep my D800 as I also have a Nikon film SLR so I can share lenses. Mainly use it for color work as my first attempts with RA-4 were not too successful.
