Firmware upgrade bug: TL shortcut not displaying in EVF

After upgrading to the latest SL firmware, I've noticed a bug that was confirmed at my local (SF) Leica store today, using their upgraded SL.

All the shortcut buttons (long press) work fine, except the TL (top left). I programmed this for ISO, then changed it to lens selection, both failing to display in the EVF in the following scenario:

Look through EVF

Press TL button (LONG press)

Nothing happens

Remove eye from viewfinder

Press again

Look at rear display (view (correctly) ISO or lens list, or whatever shortcut has been programmed)

Move eye to viewfinder

Suddenly display that should have displayed when TL button is pressed appears in EVF

While the rear screen shows the desired function (once you've removed eye from EVF), the EVF does NOT show this display until you've repeated the process on the rear display first and then moved your eye to the EVF.

My local Leica store, without changing THEIR preferred settings on their firmware upgraded SL, repeated the experiment with exactly the same results. All other shortcut buttons work as they are supposed to except TL. This bug is confined to the TL button.

SF Leica will be contacting Leica support to report / diagnose this bug. As I learn more from them, I'll post additional information.Again, two different SL bodies with same firmware upgrade evidenced the same bug with exactly the same behavior.

Has anyone else encountered this problem?

There is an intended interaction which suppresses the TopLeft button when you are using the viewfinder, to prevent what Jono calls "nose control."  I was able to demonstrate your problem by holding the camera to my eye while switching it on (so that the back LCD never lights up).  Then the TL shortcut is suppressed.  If I hold the camera away from my face while switching it on, so that the LCD lights up even for a moment, then go to eye control, the TL shortcut works.  So it sounds as if the "nose control suppressor" itself has a bug.  Anyway, I don't find it a problem, and the workaround is to let the LCD have its moment, but that part of the UI seems to be shaky.

Ron,

Yes, that is the way it's supposed to work if MENU ACCESS IN EVF is DISABLED. This is the default setup, was in firmware 1.1 as well. The TL button is essentially disabled when the EVF is active with this option set disabled.

To enable menu (and direct softkey function) when using the EVF, go to SETUP > CUSTOMIZE CONTROLS and set MENU ACCESS IN EVF to ENABLED.
