Why there's no option of RAW only

If you don't use the jpegs then set the jpeg size to minimum.   The memory card space taken up by the small jpegs will be about 50:1, meaning you'll lose space for 1 raw image for about every 50 images you take.  That's not enough to bother thinking about for me.

I've read the Leica uses the JPEG for image playback.  They are also used when you use the WLAN feature to send images to a smart phone or tablet.

I completely understand the complaints by people who are used to shooting DNG only and would like to get rid of the jpegs altogether, but... How do you like the jpegs coming out of the Q (not jpegs in general)? Is it more like "out of discussion because I only shoot DNG" or "I have tried them and don't like them"? I am saying this because Q's jpeg colors look very special to me, to the point that I only rarely shoot DNG these days.

Having tried jpegs, they are substantially inferior to the dng files.  I wish Leica would fix that issue.

Not sure whether any of their other digital cameras have that same issue. Certainly, not the x2, x vario, x113, not the Leica T.

I know it's a pain but I believe they do it for the reasons given above. I have mine set to the smallest size and have a preset in the import settings for Lr6 which I use to remove them

David, I've looked all through LR to try and find the setting to remove jpegs on import but can't find it (even with a Google search). Can you share how you do this?

Hi Louis I have a filter

which I have set up so it appears in the presets

Then when I click import I set it to the 'remove jpeg' filter preset  and trash them all so I am just left with the DNG's so they are imported but them immediately batch deleted. Hope that makes sense

Really useful tip. Thanks!

I would add for clarity the this is all done in the 'previous import' box in the catalog in the library module

I have a slightly different approach that also works, but is a one-time setup...

I have a Smart Folder that searches for the Camera: "like Leica" and filename like ".jpg".  Then all the Leica JPEGs always show up there automatically, and you can mass reject them and then delete them.

I have always copied my DNG's into a dated folder on my hard drive and then imported/added them from there into LR and not directly from the card (as recommended on a LR course I attended). Then do a Time Machine backup plus burn to CD if work related.

For the Q  - if I don't want the jpegs and sometimes I do - I just 'sort by size' on Finder then copy the DNG's into the folder on my hard drive. I have the 'second copy' un-ticked on the LR import dialogue so i don't end up with loads of copies. This maintains the integrity of my workflow across Q and M platforms.
