I agree.  You have some really interesting photos on your flickr stream.  Bravo.

I am not sure what the purpose of your flickr stream is.  But if it is for you to showcase your best work as world-class "interesting" photography, I believe that it would deb possible to do this because many do exist in your collection.  Having said this, there are also many photos that don't pass the test (at least in my humble opinion).  So in this case I would suggest pruning your collection in a major way.  There is no way that I (or most others) am going to flip through more than 50 or so photos (some interesting and some not so much), and you have well over a thousand.  So as a result of having so many, I can't get through it all.  My loss, for sure, but you might be missing the opportunity to let the world see your best work, which is one of the nice things about Flickr.

I also am confused as to why you chose the photos for this thread, which aren't nearly as strong as many others in your collection.

In any case, have fun, good luck, and I'd love for you to share more.

Happy holidays,

Adam Miller

I've had a look part way through your Flickr album and there's some excellent work for all to see, if they have the time to go through the entire collection, that is. I'm also impressed that a large number where taken using a film camera, and clearly you know how to use a RF effectively. If I was half as good technically and artistically I would be mightily pleased with myself!!

I think Adam is correct, yet again, and I take it as a wake up call to cull my own Flickr album. In your case if you trimmed your album to say 50 to 100 of your finest photographs, you'd have a list of followers longer than your arm!

I've liked and commented on a few, but ran out of time to have a look at everything available. Ive made a note to return and finish the job when I have more time.

Cheers,

Steve

Their tips are powerful, are wise and honest, I appreciate very much and I give thanks to you. I clean my flickr many bad pictures, this conclusion I have also come, I have to get something difficult to select the best, very difficult.

Here is the work of years, so it is so long, I am not a professional now, I worked in the press long ago, I worked in scientific photography and photography in court, my previous job does not look like this.

I may be a bit pretentious to try that Leica waste time looking at my flick, I apologize for that, is cietto many pictures are made with TriX 400 and a Leica MP, the 500 is my main goal, it is my way of see and watch, the portrait is my first experience at the portrait and the portrait on location.

Take photographs while walking on sidewalks and while the others are also walking, very few are standing.

I just wanted to ask people their opinions of experts and see the way to finally send my humble work to Leica.

For now I'll clean my flickr according to their advice, you know more than I photograph, honest advice is valuable, I appreciate this.

When I polish my flickr shall ask them their opinion.

Thank you very much for everything, I still hear ........

Happy year and happy life for all of you.

Nice to hear your response (and efforts to write it in English, which was very clear).

I would second the comment that Steve made above which is that you should take steps to review very carefully your large volume of photos and reduce it to no more than 50-75.

How do you do this in the most objective way?

I find that the best way to get the most objective input from the world at larger is to:

1.  not follow anyone on flickr

2.  not collect any "favorites"

3.  not make any comments on other peoples' photos

This may seem anti-social and counterintuitive in terms of marketing your collection and attracting positive attention and energy.  But it is the only way to get peoples' honest and objective opinions about your photos.  Anyone whom you follow or whose photos you "fav" or comment on will invariably feel obliged to do the same for you just for the sake of being nice.  But this is not helpful information for you if you really want to know if and to what extent your photos have broad public appeal.  If you establish yourself as someone who doesn't reciprocate, then receiving followers, favorites and comments from people will be as close to the truth as you can get to knowing how publicly "interesting" your photos are and which ones are the 'goals' and which are not as interesting as you might have thought.

The next thing you should do is join as many photo groups as possible (and I mean hundreds) that contain photos and members of similar tastes as your photos, provided the groups have a sufficient number of members (I usually will look for over a thousand, but if the genre is specific enough (such as flash street photography) I will lower the threshold to, say 500).  In your case, you would want to join all the groups relating to Leica (and the types of lens you use), B&W photography, street photography, contrast, portraiture, fashion, beauty, city life - provided they have sufficiently high number of members.

I would then suggest that you submit your photos to these groups and wait for feedback - and in your case it should come in a big way.  After about 3-4 weeks of having your photos in these groups, your strongest photos will clearly emerge above the rest.  I would choose a threshold # of favorites (such as 30-50) and remove all photos that receive favorites less than this amount (after the 3-4 week period).  It may take a good 3-4 weeks for the photos to be comprehensively viewed by the flickr community, so I wouldn't draw any conclusions regarding your photos until after this period of time.  If you see that, after following the process outlined above, you have more than 75 photos that have more than 30-50, favorites, I would increase the threshold so that you are left with no more than 75.  (And as you add more photos, you should look to remove photos from your existing collection that are relatively weak in terms of positive feedback)

And no matter what do not give in to the temptation to return what might instinctively seem to be an act of kind by following someone who chooses to follow you or add someone's photos to your favorites collection who has done the same to you.  What people are doing should not be viewed as an act of kindness, but rather a keen interest in keeping up with your work and showing off your photos to their friends and followers.  You should embrace this and stick to your rule of not following anyone or collecting any favorites.  An exception that I make is to respond to any favorable comments made on my photos with a short and simple "thank you."  No need to explain how the shot was taken, or what the conditions were, or what you ate for breakfast and how that affected your mood that day.  You get me? :)

This entire process may take several months.  But these are the secret ingredients that will get you what you want.

I am happy to provide my comprehensive input on all of your photos if you would like to engage me on a consultation basis.  I don't think this will be necessary if you follow the steps that I have outlined above.

Feliz Navidad and best of luck,

Adam Miller

Uff !!, .. really your words are like gold to me.

Excuse my bad English, but I try to do well ..... lol

Some of the things that you advise me and I do.

I must say something else, I do not seek this information and these tips to sell my pictures, sometimes the gift who asked me for a book or hang on a wall, this has ever happened to me.

Today I removed my fick 300 bad photos, and gradually keep it, I do it calmly to choose well.

Really, sometimes some people in forums that offer help to other shows, this is your case, very nice, thank you.

These tips are very good.

You are putting me red, I have shame, the truth is that expected criticism for my bad pictures and is the contrary, you tell me great things, but I know I have to improve a lot and select more.
Now I begin to remove more trash my flickr gallery.
Greetings and thanks for the help, I appreciate very much.

Jhon,

your pictures are worthwhile all effort in achieving what you want in terms of public acknowledgement. Keep going and with following the advice of Adam and also Steve I wish you all the best.

Adam,

wow, what a lecture! It is very important to know what you want and why. Your advice is very much appreciated! I share your experience on Flickr. The algorithm and people's response is puzzling me all the time, but a few rules are certainly there and you outlined them very clearly. Many thanks!

Before my flickr gallery had 1200 images, now I have reduced waste and are only 700.
I'm still in it.

I'm going to give away with some photographs on the street today, I hope you like them.

Greetings and thanks.

Of course, if a photographer does everything to please everyone more photographers are not necessary, only a photographer for the entire planet.

Good photos.

You use a 24mm ??

Thanks bro.

Perhaps dramatize my photos and more are closer, I shot a 21mm 1 meter away ......

I wouldn't go wider than 28mm.  I used to use flash more but have realized that the pulsation effect was not satisfying enough for me; so I have moved on.  An exception to this is extreme weather, such as snow blizzards.  I LOVE the effect of flash in the street during snow blizzards (particularly with color film), and will continue to develop a body of "work" in this area...

I recently sold my 28mm, now I have the 21mm ASPH, I feel more comfortable here.
Greetings and happy holidays to all.

I use my copies in paper-fabric Canvas 400g museum, I like the fabric.
My printer is an Epson 3880, it is sufficient for this.
