Advertisement Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 Hi Schrödinger's cat, Take a look here Using a filter and hood both on a WATE. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ausimo Posted December 16, 2015 Share #2 Posted December 16, 2015 I found the following in my research: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/461945-REG/Leica_14473_67mm_Filter_Holder_Adapter_for.html http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/11197-REG/B_W_65069650_67mm_Screw_In_Metal_Wide.html
Schrödinger's cat Posted December 16, 2015 Author Share #3 Posted December 16, 2015 I found the following in my research: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/461945-REG/Leica_14473_67mm_Filter_Holder_Adapter_for.html http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/11197-REG/B_W_65069650_67mm_Screw_In_Metal_Wide.html Thanx, that's what I was looking at myself, but with a slightly different 67mm hood. I was hoping for something a bit smaller, but I guess that's just not happening.
jdlaing Posted December 16, 2015 Share #4 Posted December 16, 2015 No. The hood unscrews and the filter holder screws on. It then becomes too wide for the hood. That hood is to wide and will block the viewfinder big time.
Schrödinger's cat Posted December 16, 2015 Author Share #5 Posted December 16, 2015 Think something like this is still too deep ? Not this very one particularly, just a flare out design. Schneider also has one that's a lot more shallow that looks nice. http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Metal-M67-67mm-Wide-Angle-Lens-Hood-screw-mount-for-Canon-Nikon-Pentax-Lens-/251076203638?hash=item3a754ed476:g:4wUAAOxy3zNSnvUJ I like hoods, but on this deal, with the bulbous front element and all, I'd really like to use a filter. (not intended to be another (shudder) filter protection debate thread )
jdlaing Posted December 16, 2015 Share #6 Posted December 16, 2015 Too big. It will block the viewfinder more than you want. The built in hood is fine.
jdlaing Posted December 16, 2015 Share #7 Posted December 16, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Let me retract that. You're going to use the Universal Viewfinder or EVF with it so viewfinder blockage is academic. It's still unnecessary to go thru that with an aftermarket hood. I think you'll also find a filter will cause you unwanted problems with that lens.

FlashGordonPhotography Posted December 17, 2015 Share #12 Posted December 17, 2015 When I bought my used WATE it came with the 67mm filter adaptor but not the original hood. That's how it's been ever since. Hoods on wide zooms are particularly ineffective. I prefer just to have a small piece of card in my bag that I can use as a strategic shade when required (I carry a color checker which does the job). There are little bendy arms that go to the hotshoe to carry the card if required but I gave up on those years ago. It's not just the WATE. I find all those wide lenses hoods pretty useless as they can only be designed tiny, to suit a 16mm lens. Gordon
jdlaing Posted December 17, 2015 Share #13 Posted December 17, 2015 I think the hood on the WATE does a very good job. The front element on the lens protrudes so far if there were no hood or filter holder you could get monster flare even from over 90 degrees out on the sides. The filter holder does pretty much the same as the hood. I just never had much use for a filter other than the rare use of a ND and definitely not on a 4.0 lens.
