Using a filter and hood both on a WATE

Thanx, that's what I was looking at myself, but with a slightly different 67mm hood.  I was hoping for something a bit smaller, but I guess that's just not happening.

Think something like this is still too deep ?  Not this very one particularly, just a flare out design.  Schneider also has one that's a lot more shallow that looks nice.

I like hoods, but on this deal, with the bulbous front element and all, I'd really like to use a filter. (not intended to be another (shudder) filter protection debate thread :) )

Let me retract that. You're going to use the Universal Viewfinder or EVF with it so viewfinder blockage is academic. It's still unnecessary to go thru that with an aftermarket hood. I think you'll also find a filter will cause you unwanted problems with that lens.

When I bought my used WATE it came with the 67mm filter adaptor but not the original hood. That's how it's been ever since. Hoods on wide zooms are particularly ineffective. I prefer just to have a small piece of card in my bag that I can use as a strategic shade when required (I carry a color checker which does the job). There are little bendy arms that go to the hotshoe to carry the card if required but I gave up on those years ago.

It's not just the WATE. I find all those wide lenses hoods pretty useless as they can only be designed tiny, to suit a 16mm lens.

I think the hood on the WATE does a very good job. The front element on the lens protrudes so far if there were no hood or filter holder you could get monster flare even from over 90 degrees out on the sides. The filter holder does pretty much the same as the hood. I just never had much use for a filter other than the rare use of a ND and definitely not on a 4.0 lens.
