Advertisement Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 Hi lambroving, Take a look here Black River & Western. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
harmsr Posted May 29, 2007 Share #2 Posted May 29, 2007 William, Very interesting shot. Nicely done. Is this the new "red label" Portra VC? I have started to grow fond of this new VC. It works better in the high contrast light than the old one and also scans better. What are those "jacks/lifts" in the foreground for originally? lambroving Posted May 29, 2007 Author Share #3 Posted May 29, 2007 Hello Ray, Long time, no see! This shot has a lot more snap at print resolution. Pleased you enjoyed. I still can't post nearly what these lenses can do. Check this out; bit better. http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/sports-leisure-time/24087-delaware-turtle.html This is the "old" VC. Good to get your feedback. Where did you get yours? Normally I've been using NC, as has Dan. Wonder whether B&H has the new stuff yet? Last I ordered two months ago was still the "old". No idea what those jacks are for. Maybe some rail buff will enlighten us. I've not had much time for the Forum lately. Be sure to send me a link if you post anything. hamey Posted May 29, 2007 Share #4 Posted May 29, 2007 Hello Gentlemen. Perhaps this shot might help you. These hydraulic jacks are used to lift Coaches, Cars etc but not Locomotives. And mainly to replace Engine and Electrical Generators sets. Taken with my R7 & 50mm and Kodak Elitechrome 100. Ken.
hamey Posted May 29, 2007 Share #5 Posted May 29, 2007 William. Another shot of the lifting Jacks. My apology to the above post, these are the Electric version's, their full operation is controlled by a computer which synchronize the raising and lowering simultaneously. R7 & 50mm f2, Kodak Elitechrome 100. Ken.
pemayeux Posted May 30, 2007 Share #6 Posted May 30, 2007 Nice capture William. I'd like to try the new Portra as well. I received some Kodak but have not had a chance to shoot it yet. I've been trying to use up my Kodachrome 64 before processing the K14 is killed off. This, along with your California shots, really illustrates the fine textures and details that antiquated 'ol film still manages to squeeze out. Great exposure. harmsr Posted May 30, 2007 Share #7 Posted May 30, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi William, I was hiding in the M8 forum and very unfortunately got wrapped up in all the technical junk, vs. over here looking at the photos. The business has also been taking off very rapidly and requiring a lot of time. Yes, I did like the photo. In the past as you know, I really liked the 160 NC better than the VC and the opposite in the 400. I also never really liked the UC films. The newer version VC is much nicer and my view has changed. I am really liking the VC now. Relative to attaining it, well you might say that I cheated. I strong armed the Kodak guys when I was at PMA and got several 5 roll packs of 160 NC, 160 VC, 400 NC, & 400 VC to try out. It is just starting to appear here in Phoenix at the local shop. Hopefully, I can start posting some photos again as I have A LOT of them that need post processed out from the M8 and film to scan from the M5. lambroving Posted May 31, 2007 Author Share #8 Posted May 31, 2007 Ken, Thanks for the input. That is some fancy rig! Do you drive one of those too? If I can get around to it, I'll post a shot of a "new" loco they have now for restoration. Not a great shot, but perhaps you can identify it for me. Paul, Yes... Name of the game, isn't it? Ray, Glad to hear the biz is going "great guns". Maybe I should take a job with you! Wonder if I can still hit anything with a pistol. This is all good inormation. Think I'll order some more from B&H over the weekend when it's cooler here. Never liked the old 160 VC except in dull light. Hope B&H have the label "Now with even finer grain" on the boxes. The cassettes look just the same. Had the 100 UC in one body because the forecast was for "dull and cloudy" that day. I've had good luck with it frequently, but sometimes my 35/2 doesn't like it in really contrasty situations. We don't have the razor light here that you have in AZ often. Now that summer is coming, we are more likely to get bright, milky haze which is very unattractive. Hard to get anything in that light. Send me the links when you post something. I'd like to see that new 160 VC. Work has been a nightmare lately and I don't check in here very often.
hamey Posted June 1, 2007 Share #9 Posted June 1, 2007 William. These are our new expensive toys, and yes I do drive them, well actually I share it with some onboard Computers, and they decide when I go or stop. When something does go wrong and these computers won't respond, there is a simple Answer. Shut down the System, open the battery switch, that will re-boot the system and hopefully power is restored. Cheers.
lambroving Posted June 3, 2007 Author Share #10 Posted June 3, 2007 Ken, That's funny. Well..., not really. Cars are the same these days. Sometimes it works, other times you have to wipe the computers and do a complete software update and re-install... Takes an hour..., if you get it right... ddp Posted June 8, 2007 Share #11 Posted June 8, 2007 Now this is a nice departure from your regular stuff - I had no clue these were even there that day! That 28 is a damn fine lens to boot. I've really been impressed by the Porta we've shot over the last several months....good stuff indeed. Well worth trying if you're in the mood for the analog world.
