ECohen Posted November 18, 2015 Share #1 Posted November 18, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Magenta highlights? I shot a stream today, it was very contrasty day.....not a pretty day, just a walk at noon along a river. I exposed for the highlights knowing everything else would be black and figured, if the highlights were fine I could lighten the shadows later.... I didn't really expect much To my shock the Raw photos were completely unusable because the highlights came out bright magenta? Did I extend the range of the camera, that super bright highlights are not photographable...in color? Camera Info: M240 DNG and B&W jpg Auto white balance 35mm Summicron 1/4000 around f/4.0 ISO200 As another point, my intention was to shoot for Black and White...not that's a factor, but those files came out as expected Any thoughts on those Magenta highlights? mjh Posted November 18, 2015 Share #2 Posted November 18, 2015 Impossible to say what’s the cause based on this image I’m afraid. I’m not even sure I see any magenta.

jaapv Posted November 18, 2015 Share #5 Posted November 18, 2015 Purple fringing. So common in digital photography that Lightroom has sliders to eliminate it.
edwardkaraa Posted November 18, 2015 Share #6 Posted November 18, 2015 Purple fringing. So common in digital photography that Lightroom has sliders to eliminate it. It's so common that, in fact, my brain got used to seeing it, and I don't bother correcting it anymore

That’s spherochromatism – magenta in front of the plane of focus, cyan behind. A fairly common phenomenon indeed.
