Leica is genius

Well I have just come to the realization that Leica is genius. They have given us everything we wanted in the SL. Its a great little camera...but when the M10 is released, I'm still going to order one. With the SL we have a body with an amazing EVF that accepts all of our legacy lenses and is nearly as fast as a DSLR. Everything we couldn't do with the M is now possible...but I still need a rangefinder for those times when I want to keep it simple. So yes Leica, you win. I will now own both new systems.

Of course my Monochrome was never going anywhere...im talking about the new M, whatever its called.

...comes the Rapture, eh?

Hi Doug,

after two years of struggling using my R lenses with the M 240, I took the decision to trade in my three M lenses and the M240 for the SL with the 24-90 (I know, somebody might say I am crazy but I just couldn't cope with using my R lenses like the Apo Telyt 280 f4.0 with the EVF of the M240) and I must say it is absolutely incredible how fast it is to manual focus with this camera due to the gorgeous bright viewfinder. It is also very quite and comfortable in my hand.

I am extremely happy indeed and I hope I can post some picture soon.

All the best

Massimo

My wallet does not want me to read this  :p

Sorry Doug.

I did a lot of testing with the SL using the zoom, my M, and my R lenses today. I went for a walk with the camera and the Macro-Elmarit-R 60 ...

It is worth every penny of what I paid. An incredible piece of equipment.

Leica is genius when it comes to cameras and lenses. The SL is no exception.  B)

The nearest store where I can see the SL is about an hour and a half away (Walnut Creek CA).  Looks like I'll have to go see for myself ... and be prepared to return home with a much lighter wallet!  BTW if anyone wants to help feed my addiction I'm selling prints  :)

I also sold my M240, although I kept my MM...but now I realize its only temporary until Leica announces the new M.

I think the M + SL make a pretty substantial combination.

I haven't sold anything yet . . . . but I guess I'm going to have to find something (run out of kidneys and grannies). But it won't be anything M (I have an M-P and an MM). Maybe my µ43 kit is finally on the block?

I quite agree with you that the M and the SL make a wonderful contribution.

I've just got my own SL with the 24-90 - and I'm just as excited as you - even after three different testing periods (nearly 3 months in total) the gloss hasn't worn off - rather to the contrary in fact.

Doug and Jaap - you are clearly both DOOOOOOOOMED - you might as well give in immediately and get your cards out. I'm sure that you won't regret it!

More or less what I will do if I get the Vario-Elmar 24-90. It would be easier if the SL had a fully silent shutter (yes, it's quiet, but not silent). My one hope is that I can "sell" my EM5ii to my wife, so I could borrow it back for the occasional classical concert.

My M 240 went as well, but it will likely be replaced, eventually with an M246 - I still have plans for one of those.

The SL so far, is everything I expected. It's really quite something, from build to image quality and functionality. For me, they got this one right.

I am keeping my small M kit (M-P and M4-2, six lenses) and the Leicaflex SL and R8 bodies, in addition to the R lenses.

I am also keeping my X typ 113, Hasselblad SWC, Rollei 35S, the trio of Polaroid SX-70 (original, SLR670m and SLR670a), the Voigtländer Perkeo II, the Nikon F/F6 and a couple of lenses, and the 1940 Berning Robot II.

Oh, and the Pentax K-01 'Marc Newsom' special with its two lenses. It's just too cute to sell. ;-)

All my other photo excess us going up for sale. There's a lot ... I might make back three-quarters of what I spent for the SL + lens. Holiday season is upon us! Time to wring out the Ebay...

But now the 28mm PC has a full frame again! I tried the SL at Stephens premier in Manchester last week...

I took two shots hand held, one with max shift up (11mm), the other max shift down (11mm) ISO 400, f4 (not recommended as at least f11 with shift!) and joined them in PS.

The line that looks like a join line is power cable... I should edit it out!
