Leica C was in my pocket when I stopped the car at Uffington Bridge near Stamford Lincs. UK.  At the time I was hoping to see the once resident Little Egret which has now vacated its former habitat. The gulls and swans shared this stretch of river with the egret; the cattle were very wary of the birds - keeping their distance and backing off from the swans whenever they swam by.

Beautiful photo... and so typical of this part of the world...  Good lighting ,too, although difficult to control that amount of dynamic range...

We were very fortunate to have Little Egrets arrive in the stream that ran along the bottom our garden in Soham of all places.

Unfortunately, we moved a few weeks ago to be a little closer to my ageing father, and now we have the occasional blackbird or starling and not much else...

Such a pity... I really enjoyed the swans, mallards, kingfishers, moorhens and the occasional heron or little egret, along with a wide variety of finches and tits, and, much to our delight, a Greater Spotted Woodpecker.

Five miles, and all the difference in the world as far as garden wildlife is concerned.

Next time we move, I will absolutely make sure we back onto a river or a stream again...

This is another from the same trip which does show the Little Egret (but which has since vacated its habitat) on the LHS …  but no wading cattle in the foreground.

Thanks for posting that... just on the left hand margin... and on its own? I've only ever seen them in pairs... but they still seem to keep their distance from each other!

Wise birds... :p

When resident, the Little Egret chased others of its species away if they flew by but it tolerated herons and swans and coots … Little Egrets are are fairly common on the Welland. Very attractive birds but when they poop from the top of a tree all hell breaks loose!

Thanks, thats a lovely scene Dunk - I much prefer the desaturated version, but thats my taste in landscapes.

Sorry to hear about your river loss Bill, but enjoy being near your father (been doing a lot of trekking up & down the A11 recently to mine). We have the river Granta running along the bottom of our garden and have seen herons, kingfishers etc and had a fairly tame moorhen who would come up to the patio for food.

Thanks Jonathan. He lives in Burwell and we just moved here... 89 and quite forgetful. Not dementia, my stepmother just ended up in care through dementia (Alzheimers) but since she has gone, he is a bit lost...

Strange birds, moorhens. We had one that came up on our patio. Never did tire of seeing them walk... such LARGE feet and they seem to pick them up so high, even when walking on something solid. I suppose its hard to lose their gait when they are so used to walking on weed...

The river Granta...? Lovely.

I've always fancied Grantchester, backing on to the Granta itself, but I would need a lottery win to afford a decent property there and nothing ever comes up for sale anyway...

Still, I can dream... :)

We're over in Linton, so whilst it is still officially the Granta here, its not quite as impressive as it is in Granchester! (and I couldn't afford to live there either  :) ).

Dementia is a horrible thing, I've been lucky in that I have had the chance to take a little break from my usual career and been able to spend more time with Dad, but will probably have to think about getting back to work before too long.

(we should really organise a get together of the Cambridge locals sometime, even for a coffee to say hello!)

I agree, there are quite a few of us on here - and I would certainly be interested....

Yes … Several Leica Forum members in P'bor (also members of The Leica Society) … a GTG at a mutually convenient date /time/hostelry would be welcome. I am in regular face to face contact with 3 forum members … and 4 of us in P'bor are Leica Society members.

Very nice, indeed. I definitely prefer the first untouched shot, even "contrasty" as it is. It very much reminded me some corners of my native Belgium (except for the birds...).
