vladik Posted November 15, 2015 Share #1 Posted November 15, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Dear Leica users, I am not sure if this topic was ever discussed before. So, now that we have a Live View on some Leica camera bodies it would be possible to use teleconverters (I can hear roar of disapproval) with some lenses. I use to use a 1.4 teleconverter with Nikon lenses without any visible image quality degradation. Further question, would teleconverter affect image quality more than crop to the same field of view in post processing (I think not)? My personal wish would be for a 1.5 teleconverter for my 2.0/75 APO Summicron making it into nice 112mm lens.

Thank you for your reply Jaap, but I will pass on Komura T.C., as it would not give me image quality that I would be happy with and a decent modern one is non-existent. After fair bit of research I will get a Zeiss 2.0/135 Sonnar in Nikon mount and a Novoflex adapter for my M. Regards, Vlad.
jaapv Posted November 15, 2015 Share #4 Posted November 15, 2015 Well, to be honest, of all the converters I ever saw only the Leica Apo ones managed to convince me. Even the Canon and Nikon ones are just acceptable imo.
bocaburger Posted November 15, 2015 Share #5 Posted November 15, 2015 I have a Komura, in fact I've had several. The rangefinder coupling on all of them was iffy at best, definitely not trustable with a longer lens or wider aperture or close distance. The one I have now had the rangefinder coupling removed and I got it for $25. Used to use it mainly on a Visoflex as a macro converter, otherwise I either had to pre-focus the lens without the converter first, or just use it at infinity. I haven't tried it with the M240 and EVF, but optically other than for macro and stopped down, it was never anything to write home about. Plus it costs 2 stops of light, so firm support is a must. I find cropping to be as good if not better than that converter.

It was fun when I had it, the r/f patch on my M3 made about the right viewfinder for 270mm ☺ Gerry

Apo Extender-M #11 A cropped picture is not quite as good as the optical solution. A 'small sensor' with similar resolution is a better (real) alternative. bocaburger Posted November 16, 2015 Share #8 Posted November 16, 2015 I use my 400/6.8 Telyt-V on Nex and M240 cameras using a 14167 V-to-R adapter between the APO converter and lens, and an R-to-M adapter between the body and converter. Works perfectly, didn't need to take the converter apart and cobble anything together.
