HankPhoto Posted November 6, 2015 Share #1 Â Posted November 6, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am receiving my new T today. Â I am wondering if most T owners end up getting a Visoflex EVF. Â And I am wondering for those that have the Visoflex, do you use it a lot. Â Is it mainly the bright sun situations that cause you to use the Visoflex or is it something else. Â My main camera system up to now has been a Samsung NX500, no EVF but I added a Clearviewer LCD magnifier. Â The NX500 screen cannot be seen in the sun hoping that the T's LCD will be visible in the sun.
Advertisement Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Hi HankPhoto, Take a look here Visoflex -- Do you need it and use it a lot. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Guest Posted November 6, 2015 Share #2 Â Posted November 6, 2015 I would not be without the EVF. For one thing I wear glasses, I have two different pairs, I can adjust easily to suit whether I have them on or not. I tried yesterday an SL, the diopter adjustments is as easy as on that lovely camera. For that reason, alone I am glad to have it. In bright conditions it is also an asset. dbchun Posted November 6, 2015 Share #3 Â Posted November 6, 2015 Since I generally use M lenses and manual focus, the Visoflex makes it much easier to use. Â The zoom focus works well but found myself missing shots due to the extra step needed to focus or having issues during sunny days.
asiafish Posted November 6, 2015 Share #4 Â Posted November 6, 2015 I don't own the T, but do own the X 113 which uses the same viewfinder. Â Â The Visoflex is essential in my opinion. Â Whether focusing with AF or manually, the EVF just makes it easier.
jdlaing Posted November 6, 2015 Share #5 Â Posted November 6, 2015 I use it 100% of the time.
A B Posted November 6, 2015 Share #6 Â Posted November 6, 2015 I always use it, permanently on camera
gbealnz Posted November 6, 2015 Share #7 Â Posted November 6, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Always seem to use the Viso with the M lenses, it just feels easier. Now I have also a T 18-56, I can do without it. Biggest gripe is the "space" it takes up when fitted. It changes the size of bag required a bit. Similar to the X-Vario with EVF2. Both cameras are quite compact until you munt the Viso (or EVF2). Gary
G. van Asch Posted November 6, 2015 Share #8 Â Posted November 6, 2015 I already own a M8/M6 three lenses. I use the magnifier 1,25 on both camera's works well for the 50/90mm. I'm thinking off buying a Leica T. I live in Turkey and there is no Leica Dealer. I looked at all the views and You Tube video's but can't find Iff there is a small bag with the Viso? If you take off the Viso can it be put in a small bag that comes with it and connect it to the silicon carrying system? Thanks for an answer, G. van Asch
Learner Posted November 6, 2015 Share #9 Â Posted November 6, 2015 There is an attractive leather case that holds the Viso. Â You you COULD use the velcro on the underside of the case's flap to fasten the case to the carrying strap, but the case could pop off. Â Beware: Â 1) The accessory shoe that covers / protects the flash pins on top of the camera is inclined to get loose and fall out. Â 2) Also, flopping around inside the Viso case, the accessory shoe could escape. Â I've used a tiny piece of black electrical tape to secure the shoe to my camera. julian m Posted November 6, 2015 Share #10  Posted November 6, 2015 I bought it only for the GPS tagging. I've used it as a viewfinder once or twice.
hkgmatt Posted November 7, 2015 Share #11 Â Posted November 7, 2015 I use it for every shot. I have no pleasure framing with an LCD screen. I agree with other posters that it gives the camera an awkward protrusion and if you are not careful the viewfinder can snap off if you stow the camera in your bag with the viewfinder on. Hopefully v. 2 of the T will have an integrated EVF.
Guest VVJ Posted November 7, 2015 Share #12 Â Posted November 7, 2015 I can't compose without VF either. Â It is an eyesore though and the VF is very inconvenient for traveling. Â Â I would prefer a built-in EVF but ideally also with GPS which is unfortunately sorely missing in the Leica Q.
MichaelU Posted November 7, 2015 Share #13 Â Posted November 7, 2015 The Visoflex is always on my T. For approx. 80% of the shots I use. Don't want to miss it, it is essential IMHO.
robert blu Posted November 7, 2015 Share #14 Â Posted November 7, 2015 Do you keep the Visoflex on the camera when walking around with the T hanging across your body or shoulder? I think this should be the way but afraid maybe to lose it, drop it or... Thanks, robert

Thanks, robert It is not that loose. And remember that to remove it, you have to slide it backwards, which it almost impossible when the back is against your body. marh Posted November 7, 2015 Share #16 Â Posted November 7, 2015 Yup, for me the visoflex is always on. i have a T 23mm and an M lens. Use is most of the time. A neat trick (learnt from my local leica store) is to flip the visoflex 90degrees up i.e. it now faces skyward and you now look downwards. This makes it less intrusive when taking subjects especially kids because once you point the camera at them, they run away!

I think this should be the way but afraid maybe to lose it, drop it or... Thanks, robert I usually sling it across my body. But its not very comfy. I you notice, the visoflex is not flush with the rear (screen) of the camera which mean it sticks out. The edges are sharp and it pokes into you (unless you are wearing thick clothing of course!) Stillstand ist Rückschritt Posted November 7, 2015 Share #18  Posted November 7, 2015 I believe it is more a matter of where you come from and / or where you want to be. If you have always used an EVF and then buy a Leica T with EVF, most likely you will use it almost all the time. I have on purpose bought the T without EVF, because I wanted to give the new user interface a fair chance, knowing I can always buy an EVF later if I need it. Well, I did not miss it. After one year I joined a Leica T seminar and we were all given the full equipment, including the EVF. I tried it, but it did not help me take better pictures. And 2 classmates, coming from a Leica M used the EVF in the beginning, but no longer at the end of the seminar, except for manual focus with M lenses. For me, LCD screen and touch AF works perfect, but it takes a little time to appreciate the LCD screen over the EVF If you are willing to invest that time, buy a Leica T without it and go for the journey. If it doesn' t work for you, your dealer will be happy to sell you one any time
MichaelU Posted November 7, 2015 Share #19 Â Posted November 7, 2015 Â Do you keep the Visoflex on the camera when walking around with the T hanging across your body or shoulder? Â A neat trick (learnt from my local leica store) is to flip the visoflex 90degrees up i.e. it now faces skyward and you now look downwards. This makes it less intrusive when taking subjects especially kids because once you point the camera at them, they run away! I do that very often. It allows to take photos from lower perspectives more comfortably. This is another reason why I like the EVF as it is.
Belle123 Posted November 7, 2015 Share #20 Â Posted November 7, 2015 Since I use M lenses and focus manually on the T, it's always on. Â I actually like the fact it gives the camera a 'different' look and like that it is huge. Â I don't care much for a small EVF built in screen like the Q. Â But think once I add a T lens to my collection and take advantage of the autofocus, I might experiment taking it without the EVF for more discreet shooting and be more Q like.
