wlaidlaw Posted November 1, 2015 Share #1 Posted November 1, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I bought some years ago, an SF-58D, very much on the basis of the promise of firmware updates via the USB socket and future proofing for Leicas still to come. There has not been a single FW update and you cannot even update to the more advanced series 2 specification via an update (I asked). I suspect that the 58 may not work properly on the SL in TTL/GNC mode and that no FW update will be forthcoming to enable this, unless of course, anyone knows different. I know this was made for Leica by Metz but I believe Metz have now re-emerged from administration and it looks very much as if the new SF 64 is a Leica version of their 64AF-1 flash. There is therefore, no reason Leica could not ask Metz to write an FW update to enable full functionality of the 58 on the SL. Wilson
Advertisement Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 Hi wlaidlaw, Take a look here Will the SF 58D (Ser.1) flash work with the SL?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
viramati Posted November 1, 2015 Share #2 Posted November 1, 2015 One can only hope that it will work as it seems to function properly on my Leica Q
fotoism Posted November 1, 2015 Share #3 Posted November 1, 2015 Last I heard you can update the SF58 firmware from v1.1 to v2, but you cannot do it via USB by yourself as promised but instead have to ship the flash to Leica and have them do it for you. I don't know if v2 will work with SL.
