Can any member help me identify a 135mm lens.

I suspect it a first series 135 Tele - Elmar.

The seriel no. is 2083752  Tele- Elmar 1:4/135. Leitz wetzlar.

It comes in a tapered clear plastic container. The lid of which also doubles as the cover for the bayonet end. There are two lens cap type pieces in the container with male/female type fixings, they will lock together. I do not know their purpose. I think I have read somewhere that one of the 135 lenses comes apart for use on Visoflex. I can not see if this lens does in fact split. I do not wan't to break it.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Mike.

Thanks James for that info. Does anyone know if there are any puplications available that list Leica gear in that type of format. Could be very interesting.

I am hoping a member might come up with a explanation of the plastic jar the lens screws into and the two caps that came with it.

I do not have a hood.

Hello Mike,

Welcome to the Forum.

The plastic jar with the cap that the lens bayonets into becomes a storage container if you turn it around with the base of the lens down.

The 2 pieces that fit together are most likely a body cap & a lens base which fit together.

Best Regards,

Michael

Yes, your Tele Elmar can have the lens' head removed : keep firmly the front ring (better not the diaphragm ring, though it's the easiest take) with your right hand (other hand keeps the mount) and rotate it with decision counterclockwise : it must unscrew and be extracted after some turns : no risk at all, is a standard feature. It can be useful also to inspect the glass and to verify the originality of your item : the focusing mount usually does report the corresponding serial number of the lens (engraved on front ring) : in my item, not far from yours (2,206.209) it is printed on a paper stick attached inside the focusing mount, near the top of it.

Of course, to use the lenshead you need a Visoflex (II or III) and a bellows with proper attachment (or the 16464 short mount for Visoflex only, without bellows : but 16464 is a scarce item, not so easy to find) : by the way, the Tele Elmar 135 used with Visoflex and bellows (or other kind of extensions as hereunder), results in an excellent macro setup.

Thanks Michael for the cap info. I should have known that. They just look a bit different to the more modern examples.

Thanks also Luigi. It was a struggle, but I have undone the barrel.I think my right wrist will be painful in the morning!!

I will keep this lens. It is in very good condition. No marks on glass or fungus. Possibly because it has been kept in glass jar.

I have the later version of this lens as well. I think I will sell it as I do not need two and the later one will make more money.

I have been given this lens along with an M3. Excellent condition and owned by the person since new.

Thanks again.

Mike
