Selten Fotog Posted October 24, 2015 Share #1 Posted October 24, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) What if......Leica made a sexy rangefinder (optical) camera body that was whittled down to its bare essentials? It has a fixed 35mm f2 (or better) mechanical manual focus lens, shutter dial on top, and ISO dial on the back...that's it....(think Leica M 60 simplicity).....BUT with a lever on top resembling a film advance lever...that moved or pushed each picture you took it into a cell phone, tablet, or computer using bluetooth/wifi/nfc!! The sensor will have the same specs as the Sony A7s sensor (12mgpx with extremely high ISO). The camera does not need on board SD storage capability or any memory for that matter. The on board computers function will be simply focused on capturing the digital file in a "ram" of sorts and then with the WiFi/NFC photo advance lever you quickly "push" the image to your cell phone (that already has plenty of memory and computing ability) and is already in your pocket. No fancy hi speed Mastro processor needed...no GPS....no SD card slots like so many cameras today have.....I'm talking film age pace/speed...but with digital photos. No more, "I wish it had this firmware update, that feature, more speed"...nothing. Just take the picture. After your shot is taken and "pushed" to the phone/tablet/computer, do with it what you want. For those who "must" adjust the image, that can be done later in post either in the phone app...or in Photoshop on the computer. For those who want to upload to social media do it immediately from your phone/tablet. It will be built solid, but lightweight and about the size of the Leica CL or the Leica Q. Absolutely no other features on the camera and at a price point around that of the Q. Let's call it the Leica P (pure). Would ya (buy it)? I think the market for this camera would serve and age range from the 18yr old night club goer to the 70yr old retired film shooter. Just dreaming......although (if this was a real camera) I wouldn't be able to sleep comfortably all night because I would keep rolling over on the Leica P in my bed.....alright alright already...I would leave it on the nightstand next to the bed. TomB_tx Posted October 25, 2015 Share #5 Posted October 25, 2015 But then I'd need to get a smart phone, and I have yet to find one that has good sound quality. I want my camera stand-alone.

new2leica Posted October 25, 2015 Share #8 Posted October 25, 2015 How long does it take to move a 40mb file, figure DNG+JPG combo, via Blutooth, NFC, or WiFi? Why send to a device at all, just push to the cloud.

Selten Fotog Posted October 26, 2015 Author Share #10 Posted October 26, 2015 Google "LEICA X3 CONCEPT CAMERA" I definitely can appreciate the concept....but not the look of it....I think the traditional look of the M series still is sexy looking. My vision is more like a smaller sized M. Something anyone could throw over their neck and wear all day long due to its lightweight....think jewelry but with function. Selten Fotog Posted October 26, 2015 Author Share #11 Posted October 26, 2015 How long does it take to move a 40mb file, figure DNG+JPG combo, via Blutooth, NFC, or WiFi? Why send to a device at all, just push to the cloud. meh...then you would need to worry about cell service....wifi is a local thing. I would want to be able to take pics anywhere and know that when I advanced to the next picture it "pushed" my DNG file to the phone....where it would convert it to a jpeg file. Remember the camera would really just be a conduit between the photographers vision and the final product....the phone is going to be doing all the processing work. Selten Fotog Posted October 26, 2015 Author Share #12 Posted October 26, 2015 Thinking about it more, maybe this concept camera wouldn't work from a sales standpoint. This concept camera takes thought (manual exposure/composition) and patience. Today's modern gadgets have removed that portion of the brain in many people....unfortunately. Those buying this camera would have to know about the exposure triangle, would want to carry a second device, and would have to believe the Leica rangefinder is a sexy looking camera. JeTexas Posted October 30, 2015 Share #13 Posted October 30, 2015 All my mobile devices now have less storage space than my SD cards because manufacturers want to sell cloud storage. I do use a wifi SD card in my M but only to send low-res jpegs to my phone for live blogging. It's way too slow for DNG files.
