All these opinions from people who have not used the camera! It's the definition of downright ignorance.

whatever your reasons for saying this, whoever it's aimed at there's little reason for downright boorishness on this forum I think......

Thank you. It is rare that a canary volunteers.

Theres no better way to learn the truth of the thing than to buy it and put it to work.

If you see a bunch of Nikon gear getting sold, you'll know it passed muster.

No, and neither have you but that does not prevent you from having impressionistic negative remarks.

.

LOL. So you have a go at people for expressing opinions - which you obviously disagree with - yet you have no basis for your own opinions!

Really Pico, you're very amusing.

I have not disagreed because I do not criticize what I have not experienced. Consider the same.

.... an EVF will never replace an OVF, ( even though I do have and appreciate the qualities of the Q for what it is..... ).

......

Regarding the M, the weak point IMO is the rangefinder which can be out of adjustment.

If you need to rely on an EVF to verify its adjustment or to focus properly, better to have an in camera EVF.

Here I am joking, I love the M.

But regarding the SLR...

At the pace the EVFs are improved, it is only a matter of time IMO before the advantages of the EVFs overtakes the SLRs.

Less sound noisy, less vibrations, higher burst mode, real time depth of field visualization, real exposure pre-visualization, no mirror that can be out of adjustment, not to mention focus peaking and zooming of the image into the finder.

For the moment the professional SLRs are better tools for many situations, but I guess their days a numbered.

The Leica SL 601 and the Noctilux 0.95 are the perfect match!

- Ergonomic, size and weight: perfect balance to hold, to focus (the Noct's focusing ring is perfectly positioned for the SL body vs a SLR lens), and to shoot; and to fit in commonly available camera bags, pouches etc.

- Manual focusing: very easy to to get tag sharp focus at f0.95. Thanks to the great EVF and its magnified focusing aid.

Although I am a compact M-camera-M-lens type of photographer, I have to say I am moved and tempted by the SL 601 Noct 0.95 combi, while I have a hands-on with the SL601 for a couple of hours at my local Leica Store.

Not really. I can do the same with my SLR in Live View mode (my EVF is the back display + Zacuto finder).

The only advantage of mirrorless vs SLR is size and weight of body and lenses. But it seems that Leica has not yet understood this.

that is what i got to play with as well...and after having the 24-90 on for a while it did feel much easier to handle:)....

i wasn't 100% sold on the peaking but i have to say that the SL really needs to be set up properly to get the most out of it and i am sure everybody would set things up differently....

I think SL and its Zoom (and future Prime) lens are serous challenger to professional DSLRs.

For walk-about and street photography, a M and compact M lenses (28 to 75mm) are still the best.

I posted this in othe thread of the Forum, thought of sharing it here as well:

Today I have a hands-on with the SL601 for a couple of hours at my local Leica Store. Here are some experience and thought to share:

-the shutter is very quiet (quieter than DSLR) although it is not completely silent. I feel that its shutter sounds lighter than the M240

-Its shutter release button is very refined and smooth, like onboard a luxurious German sedan.

-Single shot AF is very fast (as good as professional DSLR), but continuous tracking AF is not as good (disclaimer: action photography is not my expertise, therefore my test could be imperfect). I test it on SL24-90Zoom and T23Cron.

-Manual focusing: very easy to to get tag sharp focus (even for Noctilux at f0.95). Thanks to the great EVF and its magnified focusing aid. The M lens focusing tab (if it is your cup of tea) is perfectly positioned for manual focusing on the SL body.

-Perfect match for Noctilux for ergonomic, size and weight: perfect balance to hold, to focus (the Noct's focusing ring is perfectly positioned for the SL body vs a SLR lens), and to shoot; and to fit in commonly available camera bags, pouches etc.

-Holding a SL601-50Lux combi feels like holding M240+multi-functional-grip+50Lux, in in terms of size, weight and balance. Very useable. However, there is a huge difference:

Holding the SL grip feels like driving a race car such as a Ferrari, it's "raw", "tense", "not for long hour use" - simply because it's big and not contoured.

-The SL601-SL2490Zoom combi is heavy for me, because I am not used to DSLR+2470f2.8Zoom combi. Nonetheless, It is the weight and size for a typical professional photographer out-fit for event, studio if zoom is used, action etc.

-The SL601+18-Super-Elmar combi works excellently for me on landscape photo. The large and great EVF, and it's moveable focus magnifier are God-sent.

Other points about using SL and AF lenses, zoom lens and size-weight-balance offer no differentiated advantage to DSLR.

I like the double SD card slots, GPS, WiFi, one-press-quick-switch (the button beside the red video button) between still photo and video mode, weather-seal, joy-stick to move focusing point.

i actually took a couple of shots and asked the sales person if there was something wrong with the camera....the shutter sound is very quiet, not silent but unless you listen for it, you won't hear it...the button is great, i actually love it, but the first time using it, it almost felt like there was no resistance....

there is no other way to put it, the SL with the 24-90 is hard to hold for a long time, worse then DSLR with 24-70 (or 24-105 canon) it think the additional grip will make things better, the lens just makes it so front heavy......
