ECohen Posted October 18, 2015 Share #1 Posted October 18, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sometiimes it would be nice to focus closer. Can anyone think of reason I cant/shouldn't use Heilopan or B&W close up lenses ( +1 +2 +3 ) with Leica's 50mm Summicron or the 35mm Summicron lenses? I'm my days of shooing with Hasselblads I used a set of Proxar's with no loss of sharpness. I am aware I'll need to use the EVF or live view......on my 240M-P Opinions and suggestion's welcome....Thanks

I use a Leica R Apo Macro 100mm lens on my M240 with the R to M converter for close up work. A lens I would never part with.
bocaburger Posted October 18, 2015 Share #3 Posted October 18, 2015 I use Nikon 3T and 4T closeup lenses with step-up adapters (they are natively 52mm, a side benefit of which is an e39 lens is not using the outer regions). Those are achromat doublet lenses which I found far superior to any single-element closeup lenses I ever used. If the B+W and Heliopans you speak of are doublets then I'm sure they are excellent. Another possibility is an OUFRO extension tube mounted aft of the lens. Depends on how close you want/need to get. And depending also on how large you want to print. It may work out perfectly well to simply shoot at 0.7m and crop.
tobey bilek Posted October 19, 2015 Share #4 Posted October 19, 2015 I have used the 2 element ones on the R lenses with no loss of quality. Also the one on the 100 APO is superb, it should be at $450. The $20 ones are junk.
luigi bertolotti Posted October 19, 2015 Share #5 Posted October 19, 2015 The 10mm extension rings (OUFRO copy) from China have a cost in the 60-70 Euro range... I have a pair of, and they are well made (heavier than the original OUFRO, which I have too... they have used a different alloy and the build is very robust) : you can keep 1 or 2 easily into bag or pocket and have a portable closeup set which works very fine with lenses in the 50-90mm range (personally, I use them mostly with Summicron 50 and Summarit 75). I don't love closeup lenses... probably for I haven't ever tried a good quality one... but those rings today are imho the best solution for a quick closeup set : the time to mount is almost the same, and you haven't one more optical glass to take care of...
