jmahto Posted October 24, 2015 Share #41 Posted October 24, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Nex6 with M adaptor is my normal backup/spare. I often leave CV15 on the Nex and shoot with it in parallel (while M has 28, 50 or 90mm). When reach is required, Nex6 can resolve a little more with 90mm (it's pixel width is equivalent to 36mm FF). Now the surprising part. Recently I have dusted off my Canon P&S (A2300) that I bought couple of years ago for my son and installed CHDK. Canon crippled it with onboard crappy jpeg engine but with CHDK, I can get the RAW output. With processing in LR, the output is more than acceptable. Way better than iPhone and close to Nex6+kitzoom in good light (yes, I have done the tests). It weighs nothing and extra battery costs less than $10. It allows me to to do timelapse of clouds and star trail in the night by running scripts (through CHDK) which I can modify to my liking. Pretty remarkable for a tiny cheapo P&S. Isn't it !! Therefore my backup/spare cam for travel: Nex6 for hiking: A2300
Advertisement Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 Hi jmahto, Take a look here What is you M Back up?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Mornnb Posted October 24, 2015 Share #42 Posted October 24, 2015 My back up is a Canon 5D Mark III However I am not touching it often, only when I require Canon's 17mm TS-E for architecture or their 70-200mm 2.8 for shooting action/events. For everything else, the Leica has better optics and a better sensor with more dynamic range.

ramarren Posted October 29, 2015 Share #48 Posted October 29, 2015 I don't carry backup or spare cameras. I have many cameras. I carry cameras that I want to use for one reason or another. If one of my cameras happens to stop working, I start using one of the others, that's all.
rodluvan Posted October 29, 2015 Share #49 Posted October 29, 2015 it's a testimony to Leica Quality and QC that M users are highly concerned about a backup

chemist Posted October 29, 2015 Share #51 Posted October 29, 2015 I wouldnt call it a backup, its more a completion logic: minimum is a pana lumix lx5 or its leica version, that fits into any jacket or pants. More elaborate is an addtl. R9+DMR, more and more replaced by a 5DMKIII body with either Leica 19 mm or 16-35 Canon and Leica 60mm macro and Leica 70-210 zoom. KanzaKruzer Posted October 29, 2015 Share #52 Posted October 29, 2015 My main kit is an M240 with either the 35/1.4 or 50/2. My backup is an a7rII that with a Voigtlander VM-E Close Focus Adapter. I have the Batis 25/2 and Batis 85/1.8 on order to expand the focal length range and add auto-focus if needed. I anticipate most of the time I will carry the M240 with the 50/2 and the a7rII with the 25/2.

hepcat Posted October 30, 2015 Share #55 Posted October 30, 2015 My M9-P is my main body with a Fuji X-T1 body (with M lens adapter) backing that up when I shoot weddings. And my M4-P is the backup-backup.
asiafish Posted October 30, 2015 Share #56 Posted October 30, 2015 Just sold the X Vario, so now the backup for my M Monochrom is my M-E. Backup for my M-E is my M Monochrom. For when I don't want to mess with a bag of gear at all, I carry the X (Typ113) with an extra battery as my backup.
Paulus Posted November 1, 2015 Share #57 Posted November 1, 2015 My back-up for my M 240 is a MP and vice versa. + a spare battery for my M240 the spare battery for my MP I leave at home. But when I'm on a day trip I just leave one camera at home. depending on my mood. The M 240 always comes with the spare battery. One time I forgot the battery, still on the charger at home. This was the day I drained my M240 battery in the camerabag....Murphy sometimes visits...
vladik Posted November 1, 2015 Share #58 Posted November 1, 2015 Way back I purchased a Ricoh GXR with M mount as a backup for my M9 and I have kept it as a backup for my M as well as a walk around camera using various M lenses. Also on my longer trips I take a Sigma DP2 Merrill that I use for B&W, I am astounded by the image quality that this little camera produces; I will never part with it.
