ironringer Posted September 30, 2015 Share #1 Â Posted September 30, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Could experienced users tell me/us what Leica lenses use a 46mm screw-in filter? I just bought excellent B+W MRC UV filters in both 39mm and 46mm sizes, knowing the 39mm was useful for my 1950s Summicron 5cm, and hoping the 46mm will be useful for future lenses. luigi bertolotti Posted October 1, 2015 Share #3  Posted October 1, 2015 46mm is not so common ... but is used in some of the most useful and best modern Leica lenses :  - Summilux 50 (current asph and late pre-asph, not the "olders" like mine, which are E43) - Summarit 90 & 75 (current f2,4 and previous f2,5) - Elmarit-M 90 f2,8 (the last - with M in the name...the old Elmarit 90 2,8 is E39) - Tele Elmar 135 f4 (only the last version... which is an uncommon item... most of them are the old design with E39) - and the 28 quoted in the previous post.
@McLeica Posted October 1, 2015 Share #4 Â Posted October 1, 2015 And the current 35mm ASPH Summilux and 21mm Super Elmar-M.
pedaes Posted October 1, 2015 Share #5 Â Posted October 1, 2015 Â ..and 24mm Elmar-M. All the information you want is on the Leica website, why not start there?
pop Posted October 1, 2015 Share #6 Â Posted October 1, 2015 As Luigi already said, the 1:2.5 Summarit-M lenses use those filter sizes: E39 for 35 and 50mm, E46 for 75 and 90mm.

Though I think that all four of the current f/2.4 Summarit lenses use E46.
Guest Posted October 1, 2015 Share #8  Posted October 1, 2015 ... - and the 28 quoted in the previous post.  Yes, but in addition to the last Elmarit 2.8-28mm (IV) also the Summicron asph. 2.0-28mm fits E46. There are so many Leica lenses with E46 filters, so one could presume, E46 is now what E39 has been in former days.
jip Posted October 1, 2015 Share #9  Posted October 1, 2015 E46 and E39 are THE standard sizes for Leica:  E46: Summicron-M 28mm ASPH Summilux-M 50mm ASPH Summilux-M 35mm ASPH. Summarit-M 35/50/75/90 (F2,4 versions) and more probably... E46 is the new standard. Together with the E39 filters especially for older lenses or current smaller lenses, like the Summicron 50mm or 35mm ASPH.
ironringer Posted October 2, 2015 Author Share #10 Â Posted October 2, 2015 Thank you everyone for your speedy answers to my question. I was correct in buying the E46 filter, in anticipation of owning one of those fine lenses, someday.
gyoung Posted October 2, 2015 Share #11  Posted October 2, 2015 If, in the meantime, you want a cheap but excellent 28mm to tide you over, the Voigtlander 28/1.9 Ultron takes 46mm filters too  Gerry
