DAG Camera Repair

I've had lenses and bodies serviced by both Don and Sherry. Both can do great work, but as with any business there can also be issues. Like Sully I also say if something is not urgent so they can fit it into their workload and attend to rush work for those who need it. On rare occasions I've had to send things back to both when something didn't seem quite right. When that has happened I've had better response from DAG.

Sherry did an M4 CLA for me once, and the RF vertical came back slightly off. She looked at it again and sent it back unchanged, saying it met Leica's specs. So I sent it to Don, who thought it would be easy to fix. He did fix it perfectly, but said he had to remove the top cover to readjust the basic position of the RF because it was at the limit of adjustment and couldn't be done with the normal front screw.

Don did take over a year to CLA my M5, which I said to fit in when he could, and it came back perfect. On the other hand Sherry once took well over a year to convert a 2-cam R lens to 3-cam because parts were a problem. That lens (135) came back with a different rear flange so it would no longer work on my SL. (I then modified the flange myself rather than send it back.)

Both have also done very fast and excellent work on lenses for me. It seems like repair backlogs are lower than in past years, as Don has been quick even on lenses I said were not urgent.

It's a good idea to ask about a job before sending it in to either.

(I have also used other recommended technicians, and have waited 3 years for some work!)

How is it possible these folks can do thing Leica can't... Or won't, I suppose could be at issue. I'm certainly glad to know about them, their skills for when my time of need arrives!

Not certain that they do things Leica cannot but it doesn't require a trans-Atlantic voyage and the cost will be less. Now, if I were going to have work on an APO 'R' lens (as happened to me), that goes off to the mother ship because they essentially put it back on the line and assure it meets spec There's also a fellow in Boston, Youxin Ye, who is also respected for such work but I have no experience with him.
