tom0511 Posted May 25, 2007 Share #1 Posted May 25, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Stupid question as I know: I want to get a 90Macro as a travel and macro 90. Have black M8, might get a chrome M8 (or M9) one day. All my other lenses are black. Should I get the black or the chrome 90macro? On the Leica website I just think the 90macro looks like a very "classic" looking lens, and chrome fits nice to that look. But then again I want it for travel and light weight is an advantage (black). But then the chrome is not that much heavier and it would be nice to have a little "different" lens (since all others are black). Then a black one would be in stock at my local store.... so---help me:black or chrome? Thanks a lot to help me answer this important question. cheers, Tom

Guest hammertone Posted May 25, 2007 Share #2 Posted May 25, 2007 All my other lenses are black. This would answer it for me.
luigi bertolotti Posted May 25, 2007 Share #3 Posted May 25, 2007 My simple rule : - IF YOU CAN FIND A LENS IN CHROME, BUY IT CHROME - That is my rule, for I definitely do not like black bodies: I have to wait 2 months for having my M8, only for I WANTED IT IN CHROME. So,rule n° 2 : chrome body with black lens ONLY if you cannot do otherwise. At the moment, I did not have the will to take a lens with my M8... but when 5 days ago I finally took on my chrome M8, and the dealer told me he had a perfect (used) Asph 21 CHROME... I did not resist: I admit that would it have been black, almost surely wouldn't have bought it: silly, undoubtly. Of course, it's all strictly a question of personal taste only my Leica CL is (obviously) black... I'll get it chromed some day...
Guest guy_mancuso Posted May 25, 2007 Share #4 Posted May 25, 2007 Tom went with black myself but regardless get the lens it is very very nice with or without the macro adapter it is very sharp. tom0511 Posted May 25, 2007 Author Share #5 Posted May 25, 2007 Guy, impressive images. One day I will end up with all M-lenses. I like the TE a lot and the 90Macro would complement it pretty good. So far I havent planed to get the macro adapter since I thought you dont win that much with it and I thought close macro is not really the strength of the M. Do you have it? How you feel the 90macro for portrait? Is it too sharp? How you find the bokeh? I will order the wate as my 30% lens. Cheers, Tom
Guest guy_mancuso Posted May 25, 2007 Share #6 Posted May 25, 2007 Tom I have to say this is a sweet lens and I would like to say has the character of the 90 elmarit but i believe it is sharper overall. i thought of not getting the macro adpter myself but it turns out the is a great adapter and really in terms of macro it does a great job. Actually since i got it i am selling my Viso because i can get close enough for me to do some nice tight shots. Figure you can shoot a small rose with the 90 macro and adapter that is close enough for me. i think it is 1 to 3 mag factor . Have to check that. Now the Kit with the 30 percent off is 1900 US but you get a 90 macro , adapter and a M angle finder with it. I don't have the finder but does look nice because you can rotate it and such. i am really impressed by this lens

Look at the cost of the adapter and the right angle finder separate from the lens and then look at the kit complete. The lens by itself is 1595 then the right angle finder is 365 then the adapter is 995 for a total of 2955 not counting shipping on all of them. The cost of the complete kit is 2395. That's $560 cheaper then buying it in pieces and only a extra expense of $800 now. Spend the extra now and get the complete kit. I know for me I could really use the right angle finder. The 90mm Macro kit will be in my future.

tom0511 Posted May 30, 2007 Author Share #9 Posted May 30, 2007 Ok, got the lens, took some images and like the lens alot. Also: the sample I received seems to focus accurate on my M8, thats good. I am so impressed by the detail from some images that I also get the rest of the set. The small size/weigt is great, I like the handling a lot and think from now on it will be more often in my bag than the 90/2.8. Should complement the TE and one wide angle as a prefect travel set.
