douglas fry Posted September 7, 2015 Share #1  Posted September 7, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Well, it had to happen one day, swapping lenses over I fumbled my 90mm APO Summicron and it fell, bizarrely into the loop of the camera strap, hovered and then fell onto my foot, I nudged it onto the grass. Sadly there was some gravel and took some chunks out of the front lens element..  Leica Mayfair are quoting a return by possibly Christmas - aaaarggh Leica have moved factory and are waaaaay behind (you aren't kidding - Christmas??)  I am a professional photographer and shoot nearly every day, what do forum members suggest?. Its a shame Leica don't offer an expedited turnaround like Canon, I'd happily pay, but it just isn't available.  I could buy a Summarit and use it till my APO is returned then sell it?  Any ideas welcome  Cheers, Douglas

Erik Gunst Lund Posted September 7, 2015 Share #2  Posted September 7, 2015 How bad is it really, is it small specks or? can you see any IQ issues in an image shot with the lens... ?  If your a Pro join the LPS Leica Professional Service. Highly recommended! They should ba able to speed things up, normal within a week...
jaapv Posted September 7, 2015 Share #3 Â Posted September 7, 2015 Leica does offer an expedited turnaround at the cost of 100 Euro called Express service. it is also useful to be registered as a professional user by Leica Wetzlar. Â In your place I would skip the middleman and deal directly with Customer Service Wetzlar. Call them and ask for Mrs. Frankl or Herr Spiller. Their English is excellent and they will be able to help you. Â As for the damage itself, the turnaround will be dependent on spare part availability. Lenses are built in batches and lens elements are made in batches, as are the blanks supplied by the glass maker. If you are in luck in that respect and avail yourself of express service your lens could be in your hands in a considerably shorter time. Â You could also consider requesting a loaner, if available, or even consider getting a used Elmarit-M 2.8/90, which wouldn't break the bank and can easily be sold upon return of the lens. douglas fry Posted September 7, 2015 Author Share #4  Posted September 7, 2015 Spoke to the very friendly Herr Spiller and pending all the necessary checks he will try and turn it around within two weeks. It will also be 6bit encoded at the same time  I still might get a Summarit as a spare, as its my most used lens length by far, although funnily enough since moving back to Leica from Canon (M6's > Canon > M240) I now prefer 50mm for portraits as there can be more communication but anyway, I still want my 90mm back ;-)  Many thanks, Douglas
iphoenix Posted September 9, 2015 Share #5  Posted September 9, 2015 I could buy a Summarit and use it till my APO is returned then sell it?  Any ideas welcome  Cheers, Douglas As you are a Pro, I'd expect that if you lost anything on the deal you'd be able to claim the loss off your tax. Also, Insurance??  Of course, the important thing is having the lens you need.  David
