Kaiboo73 Posted July 14, 2015 Share #1 Posted July 14, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I realised that when my Leica Q lens when on AF mode, the focus tab is on the side of the lens. Without the focus tab support, the camera will not be able to stand upright on its own. It will tilt forward and rest on the lens. I was just wondering why is this not taken into consideration when this camera was designed. Thanks.
Advertisement Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 Hi Kaiboo73, Take a look here Leica Q cannot stand upright without focus tab support. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
hawk.kat Posted July 14, 2015 Share #2 Posted July 14, 2015 Yes, that's one of the minor annoyances. Putting on the hand grip changes the weight distribution and the camera will rest on the base of the accessory.
thighslapper Posted July 14, 2015 Share #3 Posted July 14, 2015 Leica can't win. They reduced the weight of the camera body primarily as a result of lots of moans and groans from their other camera users .......
earleygallery Posted July 14, 2015 Share #4 Posted July 14, 2015 Don't worry, I'm hard at work designing the 'Q-propup', designed to fit to the base of the camera and stop it tilting forwards. Pre-orders open now, £50 deposit will secure you one of the first of the line (£99 only full price).

digitalfx Posted July 14, 2015 Share #6 Posted July 14, 2015 it leans forward a millimeter...really does it matter?

bernie.lcf Posted July 15, 2015 Share #9 Posted July 15, 2015 Who cares....cameras are made to be used, not to sit pefectly level on a table. Unless of course, you want it sitting on a table while you focus and expose using the iPhone. My point being: there might just be one or two valid reasons to keep the camera level on a flat surface (other than the alleged primary use of a Leica, which is to sit in a display case for the owner to look at)
sdw Posted July 15, 2015 Share #10 Posted July 15, 2015 Happens with most fast lenses on the M, too.
dreamer2976 Posted July 15, 2015 Share #11 Posted July 15, 2015 For quick and easy group photos, I do put the camera on a flat surface and remote control the camera using iPhone. That's when I wished the tab is right at the center of the lens when it's in AF mode. Now I have to use tissue, cardboard, card key, etc. Small annoyance but annoyance nonetheless. pop Posted July 15, 2015 Share #12 Posted July 15, 2015 Manfrotto makes a small device which could solve this problem. It screws to the bottom of the camera and makes it stand.
jwarren Posted July 16, 2015 Share #13 Posted July 16, 2015 If anyone still smoked cigarettes, there would be matchbooks near at hand, and if anybody still carried cash, there would be a nice folded stack of bills near at hand, and either one of these would be perfect solutions to this 'problem'. pico Posted July 16, 2015 Share #14 Posted July 16, 2015 A point aside - looking at the profile of the Q, we do not know how much of the lens might be an extension of the body electronics. That is something to consider when wishing for interchangeable lenses. .
