Advertisement Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 Hi digitalfx, Take a look here SILKYPIX RAW renderer :: PP :: Leica Q DNG. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
piran Posted July 14, 2015 Author Share #22 Â Posted July 14, 2015 >>If you remove the tinfoil from the windows, Adobe products look better... Not so, without the tinfoil in the windows I lose screen calibration, gamma goes up and all the colours go 'roasty', bad idea :~/ Â Adobe products are classy. Adobe the company is my problem. Please leave it out of this thread which is about an alternative product SILKYPIX hopefully allied to the Leica Q.
LocalHero1953 Posted July 14, 2015 Share #23  Posted July 14, 2015 Your crusade to persuade Silkypix to support Q files doesn't seem to have won many adherents here  ! If you want to avoid Adobe (and they're not the only ones who "lose" email addresses and personal data) and are willing to pay, look at Capture One. If you are not willing to pay, then you may have to go down the Gimp route - a steep learning curve, but appears to be satisfying to those who reach the summit. piran Posted July 14, 2015 Author Share #24  Posted July 14, 2015 >>Your crusade to persuade Silkypix to support Q files doesn't seem to have won many adherents here  ! I agree. Wasn't meant as a crusade ...more fact finding mission. Crusade part actually turned out to be fending off Adobe acolytes. Humour... each to their own :-)  >>and are willing to pay, look at Capture One. Good point Paul, my sincere thanks. NEVER would have thought of them or even looked for them. Literally searching right now I see here that not only is my long awaited Q apparently already supported but my existing Canon and Panasonic kit is too... wow.  I have to say that Ichikawa weren't fazed one bit by me citing the opposition (Adobe LR) in my enquiry. Now Capture One as the opposition might make more of an impression? May have to start a C1 thread later;~)  Thank you Paul, I spent last night in bed thinking about how I was going to be able to face myself (sleeping with the enemy) but now there really may be an alternative(s).  >>If you are not willing to pay, Heck, as if that makes a difference! At 229 Euros for a single user (2 seats means 2 computers owned by me?) it works out LESS than SILKYPIX. Assuming I read their model right in my haste. Not per year or anything.  Need to check how they work. Adobe LR is a bit pixel map editing model - big files separately saved. Whereas SILKYPIX is brilliantly efficient with the base RAW left as is and only changes saved out to a tiny digital file that then affects the output. However the image and all IPTC stuff routinely entered (it's massively good at this) are included in each output artwork to my local server. On which I've written a programme that immediately authors, well, everything (art, text, tags, SEO.. the lot) completely automatically. That workflow working efficiency is or will be very hard to give up. Pardon me but I'm off to skulk around C1 and do some sleuthing... right after emailing Ichikawa with a more interesting challenge;~

AlanJW Posted July 14, 2015 Share #26 Â Posted July 14, 2015 I don't use Lightroom as I prefer Bridge to manage files. Â I tried SilkyPix years ago with a Panasonic. Â I did not have the patience required and thought it a rather crude converter. Â For a more sophisticated non Adobe solution you might think about DXO or of course CaptureOne. Â The problem with SilkyPix is probably lack of resources to make its own profile for every camera (even every Leica) out there. Â I can accept that you have an animus towards Adobe. Â We've all probably been ticked off by some company or other. Â Usually you get over it. Â But don't let your hatred get in the way of getting the job done. Â Anyhow, Lightroom is free so you're not giving Adobe anything; you're in fact taking advantage of them. Â

I'm now trawling through CaptureOne's very clear site.  Yes, SILKYPIX are very small, very clever, but small. May not be enough to survive particularly if they are going to continue to cherry-pick their way through compliant cameras and lenses.  No, I haven't got over 'it' and it's not hatred rather a point of principle. You don't know the whole story. Yes, I do ensure *I* get the done job ...thanks:-) I'm not accepting freebies from Adobe if can help it.  Awaiting a reply from SILKYPIX. Meanwhile viewing various video stuff, assessing features and lurking on CaptureOne's site. Probably d/l their trial after supper.
AlanJW Posted July 14, 2015 Share #29 Â Posted July 14, 2015 Yes Bridge as in CC. My views of Adobe are different. Â Don't want to turn this into an Adobe forum so I'll not say more. Â It's not a SilkyPix forum either; maybe there needs to be a place for that so users can exchange ideas. Â I don't think you'll find too many here. piran Posted July 14, 2015 Author Share #30 Â Posted July 14, 2015 I agree and thank you for your comments. The forum has provided me with all the answers I need and for that I am grateful. Fact finding mission achieved. I will continue to await the adoption by SILKYPIX of the Leica Q should they grant it but, given a working trial, I will also parallel run with the CaptureOne renderer. Result (probably) :-) Well nearly ...still awaiting the Q.
