onesixeight Posted June 27, 2015 Share #1 Posted June 27, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Guys... I recently picked up a brand new M-A and I feel the shutter release is a bit notchy. When pressing down on the shutter release, I can feel there a slight click and roughness from the shutter button interacting with the film advance. I haven't experienced this on any of my other film M cameras. I know I can just return it to the vendor but I thought I'd ask you guys here before I exchange it out. If others are like this, then I won't bother getting another unit. Thanks for your thoughts

FrozenInTime Posted June 29, 2015 Share #2 Posted June 29, 2015 I was using my M-A today, after not getting out to photograph for three weeks: thoughts of how wonderfully refined and smooth it was, were ringing it my head.
ThePioneer Posted June 30, 2015 Share #3 Posted June 30, 2015 I have never owned a new M film camera before I bought the M-A so I can't comment on how they feel. I have, however, owned a number of used M film cameras and there is no doubt that my M-A is at least equal to or better than any of them. One of my criteria for keeping the M-A was that the shutter had to feel at least as good as my M3. It does. Rough, notchy? Those terms do not ring a bell. Silky smooth! Seductively smooth! Addictive. Those are the thoughts that I equate to my M-A shutter action.
onesixeight Posted June 30, 2015 Author Share #4 Posted June 30, 2015 Thanks for your reply guys...I decided to return it and exchange it for another unit. I'm pretty sure I got a bad one-off and not reflective of the general M-A model.
onesixeight Posted July 1, 2015 Author Share #5 Posted July 1, 2015 Just a quick update: I got my replacement and I can confirm the first one I got was defective. Sorry to alarm everyone! This is the M-A I expected with its smooth shutter and mechanical precision! Thanks everyone!!!
ThePioneer Posted July 3, 2015 Share #6 Posted July 3, 2015 Good to hear it worked out. Enjoy!
pixie Posted August 2, 2015 Share #7 Posted August 2, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Glad to hear the problem solved. My M6TTL was sort of "stiffer" as i advanced, compared to my M3 (1967). The other day I realized it was almost the same in feel. 15+ years has "eased" the stiffness. Enjoy your camera.
