esophoria Posted June 20, 2015 Share #1 Posted June 20, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I had assumed that LR 6 would not be able to read Leica Q DNG files at this time. I imported some photos and the DNG files were read and processed. It also noted that there was a jpg side car file along for the ride. Lightroom can use the embedded profile or the Adobe profile. As there is no Adobe profile available for the Q, it uses the embedded profile. If you go to the Develop pane, Camera Calibration you will find that Lightroom usually defaults to "Adobe (Standard)" but allows you to pick "Embedded". For the Q, "Adobe (Standard)" is not currently available and therefore it chooses "Embedded" This impacts color reproduction. While the embedded profile is not bad, the colors will slightly change as soon as Adobe has a profile available (simply because it will default to its profile rather than the one supplied by the camera) Other than that, there is no limitation whatsoever EDIT: If you are wondering what the color changes might be, here are a few examples: For the T it pretty much comes down to the Leica profile (embedded) being a tiny bit more saturated. Skin looks better (at least my wife's skin does); there is a hint more red. For the X-Vario it's the same For the M8 it just seems much lighter - the M8 embedded profile seems darker Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

azuled Posted June 21, 2015 Share #8 Posted June 21, 2015 Related to this, when importing DNG files from the Q using "Copy as DNG" do you receive an error that "non raw files were not converted?" Previous versions of LR would convert the Leica DNG files to the most recent Adobe version of the file and apply the Adobe lossless compression to them, but that seems to not be the case now. EDIT: ok I see the option now...but why are you choosing this? The camera records DNG files, why would you then convert to DNG as opposed to just "copy" which is what I do. I generally just import and don't receive any errors "Copy as DNG" is mostly used for "non-dng raw" files, and converts them to DNG as it copies them into the library. In previous versions it would apply the Adobe DNG compression feature to imported files (a nice space saving feature without loss of image data). It appears that Adobe now intends that we use "Copy" or "Move" rather than "Copy as DNG" to import existing DNG files, but I wish that they had mentioned this change so that I wasn't caught unaware.
