Hello folks,

I just found and buy the lens that I wanted since a while a beautifull Summilux 50 1.4 Pre-ASPH 1964.

I got the lend hood 12521G but no filter....

I search on ebay and found the famous E43 Leitz filter but the price is quite infamous....

So I'm wondering which other option can I have ?

Do you know if  an B+W or Heliopan filter (43mm) can be adapted on this lens ?

I read somewhere that using a non leica filter will dammage the lens...

So my question does the (very expensive) Leitz E43 is the only option for this lens ?

Many thanks in advance for your help on this.

Cheers,

Urban

B+W and Heliopan 43mm filters will fit and not damage the lens, however the hood won't fit over them.  One solution would be to buy a screw-in vented hood on fleabay.  Another solution (the one I use with the same lens) is to source a Leica filter in some odd color nobody wants, and/or with scratched or faded glass, then transplant the glass from the B+W or Heliopan into the Leica filter mount.   The early ones are narrow and have no front threads, and the Leica hood passes by them and clips to the lens.  Later ones have a circumferential groove which the hood clips to.  I prefer the early ones for that reason, and also because the glass is held in by a threaded ring with spanner slots, so changing it out is easier than the later style which uses a spring-steel retaining clip that is fussy to remove and replace.
