kathrynjennings01 Posted June 4, 2015 Share #1 Â Posted June 4, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am switching from Canon to Leica and am wondering what I can use to see properly and focus properly through my monochrom viewfinder when using a 135mm canon lens as it partially blocks the view

dpitt Posted June 4, 2015 Share #2 Â Posted June 4, 2015 If you mean a Canon SLR lens it will not be possible to focus accurately on a MM. You would have to guess the distance and that does not work well on a tele lens. Rangefinder lenses made for M are small and rangefinder coupled to allow accurate focus. Â 135 mm is on the limits of the rangefinder specs, so even properly calibrated they present a challenge for apertures F5.6 and larger. Rangefinders are made for 90mm and shorter focus lengths. spydrxx Posted June 4, 2015 Share #3  Posted June 4, 2015 Kathryn - Although I don't have a monochrome, there are several solutions. If you have the capability to use live view on the rear viewing screen may present one option for focusing and framing with a 135 lens. The other is perhaps less practical, but has been used for many years by film body users: use the viewfinder to focus, and an accessory brightline finder SHOOC to compose. Welcome, dear visitor! bocaburger Posted June 4, 2015 Share #4  Posted June 4, 2015 If you're talking about the new M246 monochrom then live-view with or without EVF would be how you would view and focus an adapted SLR lens. If you're talking the M9-based monochrom, you would need an adapter that rangefinder couples and then you manually transfer the focus distance to the lens. Idek if they make such an adapter for EOS lenses (which would also need some kind of way to adjust the aperture, as they don't have a manual ring). Honestly given that superb, small, 135mm rangefinder-coupled lenses are available for $400 on down to <$100, why anyone would bother kludging EF lenses to a Leica, maybe except the TSE and long telephotos which don't exist in M mount. I say this as an owner of both systems.
spydrxx Posted June 4, 2015 Share #5 Â Posted June 4, 2015 in my answer above, I assumed you were referring to one of the Canon 135 lenses in an LTM mount. I often use the 135/f3.5 on my SM & M bodies.
asdfbill Posted June 5, 2015 Share #6 Â Posted June 5, 2015 just use the live view, viewfinder pretty much useless when you have live view
250swb Posted June 5, 2015 Share #7  Posted June 5, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am switching from Canon to Leica and am wondering  That's your problem right there, in switching you forgot to sell your Canon 135mm lens.  A 135mm Tele Elmar or Elmarit M aren't too expensive second hand and will work very well.  Steve
