M5 strap problem solved!

Early in the year after much thought I purchased a beautiful M5 to complement my M9. I've loved every second of using it but was getting a little frustrated trying to find an appropriate strap. The rectangular lugs on one side of the body make using split rings awkward, and there are not a lot of M5 suitable straps made around any more.

I stumbled upon www.deadcameras.com and contacted them to ask if they could assist in providing me with something with appropriate connectors. Long story short, the service was terrific and the strap arrived yesterday. It's great - elegant and robust. Worth a look. They also make versions with split rings for the more conventional bodies.

That's an old M5 with just two lugs, I love the design!

Mine has three but when I can I wear the camera vertically because it's very handy, I also wear vertically my Pentax LX that has a similar arrangement plus a grip.

Most of the new Leica straps will (barely) fit the M5, just take the split rings off and thread the strap directly through the lugs on the M5.  I have a beautiful Leica strap in a light brown leather, and instead of using the plastic posts to set length, I had a shoe repair place glue and sew the strap once threaded so as to make it longer (about 48 inches I guess).  Its PERFECT for cross-body wear and I love the vertical hang.
