Einst_Stein Posted June 1, 2015 Share #1 Posted June 1, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) My M9 view finder seems can't focus to infinite. The double image in view finder cannot match when focusing to infinite. I found a lot of posts about the DIY adjustment. Mainly about how to adjust the screws in the view finder. I'm very skeptical about that. I see there is no way the changing of lens can affect or turn those screws. I contact a couple of very reputable Leica repair experts. The quote is about $150 for the service. Anyway, I decide to take a careful look on the interior of the view finder. To my surprise, I found the screws and the wheel are not very clean. Perhaps some dirty and/or grease on the lens get to them. So I gave it some blow with my camera blower. and use Q-tip to do a gentle cleaning on the wheel. The view finder now is back to its original condition. Lesson learned: If the M9 viewfind has mismatch problem in focusing to infinite. Becfore concluding it really needs some adjustment. try to give it a blow to the viewfinder machanical parts by removing the lens. Also, try to clean gently the wheel. Also do the same thing to the lens mount. If it does not help. than maybe it really needs an expert's hand. I suggest you ask yourself if you yourself is a trustsworth expert. If not, send it out. I'd not trust myself for such a multi-thousand dollar stuff.

jaapv Posted June 1, 2015 Share #2 Posted June 1, 2015 Not new. My focus roller suddenly went out of infinity adjustment once. I found a piece of fiber (paper?) in it. I posted about it at the time. As you say, it is certainly a good idea to inspect the mechanism when something suddenly changes without any reason.

tobey bilek Posted June 2, 2015 Share #5 Posted June 2, 2015 Many years ago I put a lens on my M6 and focused on what should be close to infinity. RF was near infinity, lens was at 10 feet. Remove and wipe lens contact surface and all was well. I could not see any debris there.
