Jeff S Posted May 25, 2015 Share #21 Posted May 25, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Wilson, while you're pleased with stock profiles, there's no question in my experience that working on a large NEC or Eizo screen with custom profiles allows another level of effectiveness. A friend who uses ImagePrint has found that it has additional benefits over printing directly from LR or PS….but even then, he has gotten subtly better print results incorporating his own custom profiles (using i1 profiler) into the IP workflow per the IP instructions. It all depends on how much effort/return one desires. Jeff

Chuck Albertson Posted May 25, 2015 Share #22 Posted May 25, 2015 For printing B&W, I like Canson Baryta Photographique (works fine for color). It's a heavy paper, and I have fewer feed problems with Epson printers with a straight-through paper feed; at the moment, that's a 7800 that uses Epson inks (rental place). The Advanced B&W driver on Epson printers works really well for printing Monochrom images. All that is processed through and printed from Lightroom. Edward Louis Marit Posted May 28, 2015 Share #23 Posted May 28, 2015 I have a 3880 and am well satisfied with it. I have 2 sets of refillable cartridges - one set for piezo flush, and one set of piezography black and white inks. I also keep the Epson cartridges for printing color, key is to schedule your printing ie do all the color in one batch then the BW- the ink change and flushing takes about 3 hours. When I am not printing I put the flush cartridges in and often leave it for months.
wlaidlaw Posted May 28, 2015 Share #24 Posted May 28, 2015 Here is what arrived from Joe Cone. Very pleasantly surprised by modest demand from French Customs. They are much less rapacious than their British cousins. Now I just have to empty three more original carts before I will have a set of all nine original chips to move across to the refillable carts. On the original carts (picture below), can anyone confirm if I have the location of the air vent correctly marked. Rather than being a vent this is actually a pressurisation port to which air is applied to force the ink to the head. I want to check this is correct, so that I can tape it over for storage or use the bungs that come with the Piezograhy set, to prevent ink drying out. On the Piezography set, I assume that the small magenta rubber plug is to release pressure prior to filling or is it for something else? Wilson Welcome, dear visitor! Wilson Wilson, the rubber plug is over the fill hole - that's where you fill it from, then you put the plug back. The orange cap is over the vent which you have identified correctly. Keep the orange caps and re-use them for storage. You will also see on the same end a shiny tape like patch with a small hole - this is where the ink comes out of. I usually put painters masking tape over this for storage as the first time you use the cartridge the Epson will pierce this for ink feed leaving a small hole which doesn't leak but would allow air in during storage.
