}{B Posted May 23, 2015 Share #1 Posted May 23, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Every so often the urge to buy another Leica takes hold and for some time I've been considering treating myself and adding a digital body to my family of film Leicas. I've seen an M9 being offered for sale which has been upgraded to M9P spec. The shutter count is a low 700 odd and I'm wondering if during the upgrade process Leica reset the count. Given Leica's policy on the sensor corrosion issue I'm willing to take a chance on having to have it replaced at some time. If the shutter count isn't a true reflection of use then I may give this one a miss. Any thoughts?

250swb Posted May 23, 2015 Share #2 Posted May 23, 2015 Are you talking about the shutter count or the file number? The shutter count of an M9 is a hexadecimal number in the Image ID box in the EXIF file (you can use a free internet supplied converter to work out what it represents). But an m9 of any type, even upgraded should be well beyond 700, and even if Leica have replaced the shutter it is still a suspiciously low number given it isn't unusual for testing to take up 300 shutter actuations. }{B Posted May 23, 2015 Author Share #3 Posted May 23, 2015 The dealer states 718 actuations at time of purchase. I assume that that they are referring to the shutter count at the time they purchased it. The fact that it is an upgraded M9 made me suspect this figure and I wondered if anything that Leica may have done in the upgrade procedure may have reset the count. Tom Johnston Posted May 24, 2015 Share #4 Posted May 24, 2015 i was wondering about this too; my m9 just had the circuit board and sensor replaced. the hexidecimal reflects the same number of actuations, plus a few for testing, when it came back.
