Guest JonathanP Posted May 18, 2015 Share #1 Posted May 18, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just wondered if anyone knew why the M240 stores the daylight saving time setting in the user profiles? It seems a bit bonkers as you have to go through and update all your profiles every 6 months - I've given up now and just update the time instead. Did have me puzzled for a short while when I couldn't work out why the time kept going off Jonathan
Advertisement Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 Hi Guest JonathanP, Take a look here Why is the daylight saving time option stored in user profiles?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted May 18, 2015 Share #2 Posted May 18, 2015 TBH, I never even noticed. I do look at the date of my photographs some times, if only for organizing them, but have never actually taken notice of the time stamp.
pico Posted May 18, 2015 Share #3 Posted May 18, 2015 The reason is that the camera has no operating system with 'network time' (no persistent WiFi), although it could have something based upon GPS or Cellular but neither of those work properly. A rationalization is that for someone who changes timezones often can have a ready store in their profiles to just manually choose. Ach, that doesn't really fly, either. . Duane Pandorf Posted May 18, 2015 Share #4 Posted May 18, 2015 I travel across many timezones on a regular basis. I have my camera's time set to GMT. After my images are imported into Lightroom I select all the images from the same time zone and use Lightroom's Capture Time option to change those files time to the time zone they were captured. No need to worry about resetting the camera's internal time for what time zone you're in or daylight savings time changes.
Peter Kilmister Posted May 18, 2015 Share #5 Posted May 18, 2015 Time is only a relative dimension. Who cares ... except Dr Who?
CheshireCat Posted May 18, 2015 Share #6 Posted May 18, 2015 I think timezones and daylight saving crap are medieval. UTC should be used everywhere... ...and I think all people in UK will have no problem with that

I don't know about Leica implementations, but I can tell you GPS time works properly.
pico Posted May 18, 2015 Share #8 Posted May 18, 2015 I think timezones and daylight saving crap are medieval. UTC should be used everywhere... ...and I think all people in UK will have no problem with that As Cheshire knows, not all US States honor daylight savings time. As I've written earlier, there is a Native American territory that does not honor DST, and it is surrounded by others that do. It is a boon to bar time closings at the borders. Anyone with a 240 can tell us if Leica's implementation works. I do not think it does.
dugby Posted May 19, 2015 Share #9 Posted May 19, 2015 With the extra one hour of sunlight that DLS brings, means that one doesn't need a Lux where a APO-CRON will suffice. But the downside with the extra one hour of sunlight, you may need to use a ND filter more often......
Guest roey Posted May 19, 2015 Share #10 Posted May 19, 2015 Just wondered if anyone knew why the M240 stores the daylight saving time setting in the user profiles? Did have me puzzled for a short while when I couldn't work out why the time kept going off Jonathan It's not only a bit bonkers. It is simply bad design: you can either use user profiles or DST/Time zones, but not both. But as you can see from the reactions here not many users seem to care -- some even regard it as a feature. I have reported this to Leica but have been ignored.
hx911 Posted May 21, 2015 Share #11 Posted May 21, 2015 I'm on the GMT wagon. Have all cameras set to GMT - I have been travelling a lot in the past!
jaapv Posted May 21, 2015 Share #12 Posted May 21, 2015 It is so simple: Make 24 SD cards with user profiles for the appropriate time zone - insert the appropriate card....
