The 11819 (1979-93) and 11826 (1994-present) are optically identical.  The only difference is the earlier mount has a focus finger tab and a reversible vented clip-on lens shade and is narrower in diameter and lighter.  For those reasons I prefer it (I've owned both, the pull-out shade on the 11826 is quite short (especially when a filter is mounted) and tends to not stay deployed if it bumps anything).  If the one you speak of is a 11819 it's one of the last made in that style, so if (and I've never heard it confirmed) there were any improvements to the mechanics or coatings, it would have it.

I own both versions and my current 11826 is less prone to flare than my 11819 from 1979. The color of the reflections is not the same either. Different coatings perhaps i don't know. I prefer the smaller size of the 11819 though. Beware that the latter has a focus tab while the 11826 has none. Both great lenses from the Mandler generation anyway. Both slightly outperformed by more modern designs like 50/2 apo of course, 50/1.4 asph but also the little Summarit 50/2.5 that i can recommend warmly.

Yours is indeed an early one, with the convex tab.  Mine's a later example although still made in Canada, so <1988, and I didn't see any flare difference between it and the 11826 I had originally, which is why I sold the newer lens.
