FeralCoton Posted May 1, 2015 Share #1 Posted May 1, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I got a leica T a year ago and have enjoyed it. I've enjoyed it even more after getting an M 50mm summicron. now, of course, i want the full M experience. The safari is attractive, as i sort of like the green in a way. But my T is great and i could buy a 35mm summicron and wait for the next M whenever that is. It is a luxurious decision, but if i got a Safari set, it wouldn't be replaced for quite some time. Thoughts?

earleygallery Posted May 1, 2015 Share #2 Posted May 1, 2015 If you want the latest greatest new thing you could wait and wait and wait, there will always be another new model on the horizon.
Mornnb Posted May 1, 2015 Share #3 Posted May 1, 2015 Not quite. High end cameras have product cycles that last 3 to 5 years.
FeralCoton Posted May 2, 2015 Author Share #4 Posted May 2, 2015 My question wasn't so much about if there will be an upgrade. I'm sure there will. The question was more of whether an M would provide different image quality than the T (aside from pixel count). I've been using higher end dslr before and was just introduced to Leica with the T. jaapv Posted May 2, 2015 Share #5 Posted May 2, 2015 The short answer: yes, photographs from an M will be of a higher technical level than from the T, provided the photographer is skilled enough. However, the T does produce images that are so good that they can quite hold their own against M images and you can easily mix photographs from both cameras in a series. It all depends on what you are looking for in an image you take.
Photon42 Posted May 2, 2015 Share #6 Posted May 2, 2015 I'd say the M first and foremost provides a different picture taking experience. Then, it has a FF sensor with all its aspects you probably know about, as you mention you have shot with higher end DSLRs. And finally, I you aren't careful, it is one of the darkest black holes I came across when it comes to money spending ...
Herr Barnack Posted May 2, 2015 Share #7 Posted May 2, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) If you want the latest greatest new thing you could wait and wait and wait, there will always be another new model on the horizon. A person can easily grow old waiting for the latest and greatest M camera to be dispatched from Solms. The waiting game is akin to chasing the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow in my worldview - a waste of opportunity, life and time. The word on the street has been that the M240/M-P replacement will not be released till Photokina 2016. That would mean that in terms of actually getting one in hand would probably take till the first quarter of 2017. I can see no benefit in waiting that long; if the wait were to be, say, 90 or so days - that is another thing altogether. But 21ish months? No, thanks. Seeing how Leica just released the M-Monochrom 240, I would think that goes a long way toward solidifying the speculation that the Color M240/M-P replacement will not be seen till Photokina 2016. The M240/M-P are both solid, outstanding cameras. From where I stand, Leica finally got it right with those two, at long last driving a stake through the heart of the collective shortcomings of the M8, M9 and M9-P. That's why I held out for so long - I was waiting for Leica to get it right. When they did, I went from my M4-P to the M240, which was my first ever digital camera. JMHO, but get the M-P now and enjoy it. Shoot the hell out of it. There are tens of thousands of images out there just begging to be made with this camera. Waiting for its replacement is way past the point of diminishing returns. Of course, YMMV.

Sorry? Where in your OP did you ask that? "I got a leica T a year ago and have enjoyed it. I've enjoyed it even more after getting an M 50mm summicron. now, of course, i want the full M experience. The M has a full frame sensor versus the APSC sensor in the T, which will of course give different image results with M lenses, as you're using the full image area, will have shallower relative DOF etc.
