50mm delivery?

Recommended Posts

Carlos,

I'm not quite sure what you mean. Do you mean through the 30% discount offer or just in general.

I picked up a new silver 50mm 1.4 Summilux ASPH late last month.

Sorry but yes I'm refering to the "30% discount version" of the 50mm. I have emailed Andrea Harold at Leica and she says there is no way I will get the lens before the end of June, which is when I leave for a few weeks in Europe. What a bummer. The longest lens I have is a 35mm! This might be a long shot but is there a source for renting a lens?

Carlos,

When did you get your confirmation letter from Leica?

Maybe that's the problem, I was notified just about 3 weeks ago! So I wonder if anyone in my position has made a "deal" to take ownership of a lens from their local Leica "dealer" with the agreement to preplace it when the discounted lens comes in from Germany!

I have seen neither hyde nor hare of my 75mm Summicron, ordered and pre-paid in late January. This is not a 30 percent discount lens, just one I ordered though a reputable Leica dealer in San Francisco. I'm tempted to get a 50mm to help fill in for the missing 75. It took nearly two months to get my 28 summicron. The only other lens I have to shoot with is a recent but uncoded 35 summicron. Let's just say I'm getting very close to people these days when I shoot, and that's not necessarily a bad thing. Wasn't that Capa's advice?

You might consider the Voigtlander 50mm f1.5 Nokton and screw adapter if you are unable to get the Summilux in time. It's an excellent lens at a fraction of the cost.

Bob.

Exactly, and one can always sell it later if desired...although I wouldn't ever sell mine <G>.

Cheers,

Sean

In my experience, there is an easy way to "rent" a lens : buy at a store a lens you need if not too expensive (in your case, can be a 50 CV Nokton), keep with care box papers etc, use for a month or so with care, resell it : I did so year ago with a CV 35 1,7 Ultron : net cost about 60$...

Sean and Bob,

Are you both set on the 50mm f1.5 or would you also consider the 50mm f2.5? I really like the compactness of the latter lens. It looks like I will buy a CV lens, as you suggest to solve my problem, so I await your suggestions. Thanks to all for your advice!
